Has anyone other than an english speaking coach ever won the world cup? Can't argue with history...

Well in that case.

We need a captain in the forwards, like Francois and John was. We lost because our captain was in the backline. Can't argue with history...

Not necessarily.

David Kirk captained the 87 AB's

And Nick Farr-Jones Australia in 91...

The result was equal.

If we had lost to Spain in the pool stages, then maybe.

EDIT: mind you that might be the way to watch sport in future. Just check the scores at the end of the day and judge the teams performance on that...

One of our players of the tournament ....

Frans Malherbe !!

He put his hand up, definitely. By contrast Beast and Jannie are spent. So over played, it's sad. Also Coenie was a passenger on this tour. Trevor's also quite average but serves a more 'ulterior' purpose.

Suddenly I’m very much against Heyneke having the possibility to being reappointed as Springbok coach. R5mil per year to be involved with the Springboks… or so I heard, his current appointment with bonuses and compensation is more or less ~R10mil.

I have previously posted his opening speech when he was appointed as Springbok coach where he stated that he will always play the best available team, utilise all the resources at his disposal and to be the best team in the world. Then also that he won't be making promises which he cannot keep. Since then, the only rugby union which has adapted is the GLRU.

I will only support Heyneke’s reappointment should the coaching and management be restructured. WPRU has decided to do it entering 2016...

Perhaps we should look at the Australians, how much did Cheika change the Wallabies? He has a positive arrogance which has greatly bolstered his training input and decision making, allowing him to opt in the best coaches and management to suit his style. Coaching the Waratahs since 2013 and taking on the national side in late 2014 has only supported his thinking (or approach to rugby).

Looking at Cheika’s coaching record in Australia,

Waratahs: Super Rugby
(2013 – 9th) / (2014 – 1st) / (2015 – 2nd)
Australia: The Rugby Championship
(2015 – 1st)
Australia: The Rugby World Cup
(2015 – 1st/2nd)

Quoting Heyneke's recent comment,

http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/WorldCup/Meyer-forecasts-invincible-future-for-Boks-20151031

London - South Africa coach Heyneke Meyer said his side could become "invincible" after they finished their Rugby World Cup with a 24-13 third place play-off win over Argentina.

While falling short of the standards Meyer set for the two-time world champions, third place represented a recovery given South Africa started this tournament with a shock 34-32 loss to Japan -- the biggest upset in World Cup history.

South Africa pushed defending champions New Zealand close before losing 20-18 in last weekend's semi-final.

But with several Springboks still in their early 20s, including lock Eben Etzebeth who scored a try against the Pumas and flyhalf Handre Pollard, who kicked 14 points in the match, the future appears bright for South Africa.

"Having been so close I think this team can be invincible going forward," said Meyer. "In four years, even another year, they will be a different team."

Is that thinking outside the box?

Yeah. Use the facts.

Yeah, because Japan now and Spain then are the same. Pull the other one. And look at that year's tri nations results. It's worse than this year's RC.

How about the QF's 99 and 2015?

Where do you rate the injury ravaged Welsh side and or 70th minute try to win the match?

How does it compare to England in 99, who were fancied to go all the way, and SA's 44-21 annihilation of them, including Jannie's drop goal record?

How about that SF against NZ where we spent the entire 2nd half basically camped in our 22? Memorable for you?

How does that compare to 99 for you, when we took the World champions Aussie side into extra time, made them work hard for their win, which they eventually got through the Larkam drop goal?

You can't tell me that damp squid of a 3rd/4th playoff against an Argentinian side with 10 changes to the starting XV, impressed you more than the Boks beating the then No.1 ranked and tournament favourites AB side 22-18 in the 3rd/4th playoffs in 99?

I'm really happy HM got appointed. I get so worked up about rugby and not having to watch another match because he is in charge will be will give me more free time to spend on more productive tasks. No way the team will becomes invisible as you need a real coach that improves results not worsens it like HM has shown over the past 4 years
