R2600 + 1 Game...Sega Tennis? Anyway....you originally said you wanted to spend R3000. Well if possible and save up another R800..

R3800 will net you a Xbox Pro console + 60GB Drive + 2 Games :)

This might sound stupid... but just how important is the hard drive for a xbox and could I not get it aftermarket?

and what's your advice on getting the xbox chipped to play game copies?

I'm a LEGAL guy...I love the smell of a fresh new game. I don't support chipping and copies...and obviously it's bye bye warranty when you do so and might even get you banned on xbox live.

The HDD is NOT a necessity but handy for DLC, movies, etc. I personally don't have a HDD and I'm 100% fine.

DLC = downloadable content

R2600 for a new arcade unit seems to be the norm since they range between R2400-R2600. Enjoy the unit :)

My friend has been trying to convince me for the past few weeks to buy myself a Xbox360, but I'm having a few concerns.

He has had 3 RRoD in the past year. He does use the console a lot, and he has told me that the new models of the xbox pretty much eliminate the problem. Is it true? If it is, what models should I be looking for? I am thinking of getting an arcade & i'll decide on getting a hdd in the future.

The other problem is that I've been reading reports that say that microsoft is coming out with a new console in a year and a bit. It almost seems like a waste to buy a console now, when something better is on the horizon.

Most units that have an HDMI port are 'safer' ..... and obviously the more ventilated you keep it and the more careful you are with it, the much less chance of RRoD you're going to have (if any).

If DNS Failed.. then your xbox can't get through to the DNS servers its looking for, or has been told to look for.

Is your home network setup to use DHCP or are you manually giving it the IP Addresses?

I sometimes have the same problem from the PS3, connection failing or no IP address? Who does the DNS lookup? The PS3/Xbox or the Router which is set to get a DNS auto from ISP?

What mode is your router set in? I know Bridged and Semi-Bridged don't work. I also remember being told that it can depend on what ethernet cable you have.
