What mode is your router set in? I know Bridged and Semi-Bridged don't work. I also remember being told that it can depend on what ethernet cable you have.

Standard router setup. Router set for permanent connection to ISP. Like now I have no problems. All works, then sometimes when you switch the PS3 off and back on then during the reconnect you cannot get on the Internet. Reboot PC/Router and PS3 then all is ok again (Not always the same sequence). I suspect DNS problems but are not sure.

Depends on whether your modem is doing DNS passthrough, or hosting a DNS Server itself...

Wow, my necromancer skills still work

and in other news....

Mass Effect 2 won't allow second playthrough by character for sake of continuity

Unlike the first Mass Effect, the sequel will not allow players to restart the campaign with all the skills Shepard gained throughout his (um, her!) second adventure. Mass Effect 2 Lead Designer Preston Watamaniuk notes on the BioWare forums that the team is working hard to "offer a smooth progression into ME3 from ME2." The reasoning is that they "have to have reasonable knowledge" of where a character could end up at the end of the game.

Of course, Mass Effect 2 players can feel free to create a new character and start over. So, it appears that if you're looking to start Mass Effect 3 with a jacked-up Shepard, make sure to explore every little nook and cranny of the galaxy before going into the sequel's final mission.

Anyone know of specials on a new Xbox Pro or Elite? A noob question, but can you load anything onto the hard drive? Avi's, mp3's etc?

Xbox 360 homebrew

Good morning

I and my associate have been experimenting with the JTAG hack that has been released. It involves soldering hardware onto the Xbox 360 motherboard (Xenon or v1 revision 360s as of present) to dump the NAND of the console.

Thereby having full access to the internal system of the Xbox 360.

A YouTube video of Gentoo Linux loading (we're waiting for sound support): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cHG34tbuKs"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cHG34tbuKs[/ame]

This is very promising for running unsigned code on the Xbox 360 (emulators, alternative dashboards, other OS's, media centres, etc) on the console.

It also currently makes the retrieval of the DVD key (the code that matches your DVD-ROM to the motherboard) possible, which was a major headache for those that messed up the flashing of the console.

The only drawback at present is the fact that you mustn't upgrade your console with the latest Xbox Live update, as it blocks this exploit.

I'll have more news, pics and videos of a hacked console running various apps in the months to come.

1337

Cheers

Hmm I got to check that. Are you 100% sure it wont work in bridged mode?

I am having endless issues with network and Xbox live connections. I have an Xbox Arcade, and tried setting up to connect to my home network this weekend and be able to access xbox live. On auto setup, I could see my PC and browse my movie , music and picture folders, but could not play any AVI files as it needed to connect to live. SO I tested the connection to live...got DNS failed errors. I have checked router DNS settings and checked the settings from start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all . I have tried both and my xbox will always fail on DNS check when trying to connect to internet or xbox live.

I tried manually connecting by entering my DSL account info on the advanced settings PPPOE (username and password etc) and can connect to xbox live, but then I cant browse my shared media on my PC when I do this. Sometimes I can see the PC, but no shared media. I am always running WMP 11 on PC with media sharing enabled so it is not that.

SO I can either only get on the net or the network, never both. This does not help when I want to stream AVI files from my PC to my Xbox to watch on the big screen, as I need to be on xbox live to downlaod a media update , while I am acessing the file on my PC. ( Arcade model has no Hard drive)

As an alternative I burned some AVI files on a disc and popped it in the console, tried to play, needed the Media DL from Xbox live, had manual PPPOE settinsg entered so dialed up, selected xbox live, and BANG, more problems below.

Ok so network and connection issues aside, I managed to connect to the net finally , went through live account creation and first time it got bounced saying locale was incorrect. Used an old livemail account and set it to an Oxford postal code in Uk. I changed my locale on xbox dashboard to UK. Tried checking some things and now I am told I cant use that particular type of email acount to create an xbox live account. Are xbox live email accounts no longer able to be a web based email account?

Any ideas? Shoudl I try create a new hotmail or gmail account? Or do I need to get an international email account somehow?

So that quite a bunch of hassles to start off with. In the meantime I'm gonna try check my router settings, I am sure it is in bridged mode as I used to have a Telkom account and an Openweb account running with Routesentry to split local and international bandwidth a long time ago....I am sure that was bridged mode then, and I have never set it back if I recall.

Guys are very non-optomistic, the process of them announcing it at e3 and having it on their website is big, and I'm honestly still saying it will be here, infrastructure is there and let's keep positive

riiight so,

decided to get a Xbox with the Kinect for the family and must say, this can turn out to really get us a bit "closer" together.

got the Adventure game with it and just playing the 1st game already made us have some hectic funny stuff.

just a note: teaching older people to use something like this is really the most work :D

Yeah bought myself one as well. I don't have small kids but my 'big' kid and bf are having fun. The best is when it shows you the pictures of yourself looking like a complete idiot doing your 'moves'.

I've ordered Dance Central and Sports having checked out the reviews.

Have fun!

lol, yeah that was quite embarrassing :D

we have the Adventure that came with console and then bought the Joy Ride.

I love the Adventure and dad seems to love the Joy Ride cause he owned me :)

in certain things it does seem to have either a bit of delay or as I have seen, when you move your hand close and in front of you it does kinda battle to notice movement easily.

but damn, I am already sore all over from just doing some jumping and keeping arms up.

guess gym card will go to waste now :D
