blew me over seeing fedora and suse described as hardcore. that poster would have a heart attack after he was dead if he tried gentoo.

It was funny & a good laugh!

Next task for him - install a headless Linux server. :D

Fedora is VERY hardcore. After the initial install it asks you if you want to enable/disable the firewall, which might be too much for a newbie. :p

That is way beyond my skill level... I am still looking for the "any" key!!!

I've been using ubuntu for a while and also want to try out Mint.

Any local download you know of ?

Thanks in advance,

You can download it from here: ftp://ftp.is.co.za/mirror/linuxmint.com/stable/9/
There are a few others, but that is basically all you need. If you used Ubuntu, I would recommend you get the Gnome version. The DVD version is a little bit bigger and you get a few extras like Vlc preinstalled. But you will have to put that on a DVD and not a CD unfortunately

Also a newbie question - Tryed getting Ubuntu 10.10 to install via VM using Windows Virtual PC & never had any luck with getting 64 or 32bit to work. (OS=Win7 Pro 64bit)
Looking at it later, Wubi-exe showed i had the option to install inside of Windows(which is what i wanted to do rather than mess with changing my HDD partitioning until i decide i like/no like.
OK its now installed and working BUT
i have 2 partitions on my HDD
C: =100GB = OS
D: = 400GB = Data
I installed Ubuntu onto D:
Could someone tell me how come via Ubuntu i can't access any folders on D: but i can access folders on C: please

For anyone else getting their feet wet i played around some more & managed to get it to install as a VM in Win7 by using these instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1466888 and here http://www.hanselman.com/blog/Insta...Hanselman+(Scott+Hanselman+-+ComputerZen.com)
end result it does'nt run very lekker that way anyhow.
Its much easier & runs better to just run wubi.exe from the download iso which forms a dual boot option without screwing with your HDD

PS: Almost fell out of my chair when this OS had my K3565z 3G modem running with 0 fuss:eek:
