The most tragic thing about that is that no one cared to help the guy.
I disagree. The most tragic thing about this is that there were no police there to deal with the situation. They're the ones with the obligation to protect South African citizens.

Don't absolve the police of their responsibility by shifting it onto the average citizen. We shouldn't have to get involved, that's what we pay the police for.

And if something ever happens to you, at least you made your wellbeing your own problem.

People being attacked and losing their firearms are not the problem like some people would have others believe.
Lobby groups like Gun-Free SA have conditioned many people into believing that being a defenceless victim of crime is being virtuous.

Police will never be everywhere at the same time, not in SA and not anywhere in the world, that's why citizens do get involved at times.

The only way the police would have gotten involved in this specific situation, would be to complete the vehicle-theft document for insurance purposes.

Do they even exist anymore ?

I don't believe in a gun free world. Just one where people are responsible for their weapons, by the sounds of it most here would casually fling around their sausage like a gun. Sorry, might be the other way round.

I'm also for responsible sausage ownership.

Are you contemplating getting a firearm at all?
Not currently but I would get one in certain situations.

If I replay all the bad situations back with me being armed they don't all turn out great.
Guns don't make you bullet proof.

Gun logic makes perfect sense here....

when is that last time you took that proficiency test then ?
Once for every type of firearm you intend applying for, or a combined test with small seperate sections for the different types if you do all at once.

Then the competency application(s) which take long, often very long.
