I noticed JMPD and Mogale city recently upgraded their fleet to new BMWs, where do they sell off the old ones or what do they do with it, wondering if one can pick one of them up for a bargain?

I wouldn't touch properly abused vehicles. But i was wondering where these cars are sold or auctioned especially unmarked vehicles, how would you know they were abused and part of the fleet

I remember reading a article a while back about all the ex police cars getting scraped and crushed. Did some searching and can’t find the post. There was a picture of a truck carrying a bunch of crushed ex police vehicles.

Most of these cars are not fitted with any optional extras so why would one want a BMW without extras?

also, in addition to the milage, the engines would have been left idling for days.

Agree that those cars are seriously abused, engine idled for hours non stop daily.

I am curious when those cars are bought, how long and mileage as well does the JMPD keep them in their fleet before they get rid of them?

And the smell of KFC chicken fat would never come out of the upholstery.

Also, they would ruin the electrics by hacking in their radios and lights. And holes drilled for various screens, mounts and radio antennae.

Also, services would be done randomly by some tender 'workshop' using the cheapest oils possible. Lots of part swapping and scavenging.

They often don't run. Read about all the unusable ambulances and fire trucks and police cars backed up in service workshops for years. That is kind of the point.

Do you think the service intervals are adhered to? Do you think that if one car A has a broken X, and Car B has a broken Y, that X is not moved from B onto A to make it work? Do you think a mechanic isn't going to take part W to swap with a broken W to make some cash on the side? Do you think these workshops have trained mechanics and are using new parts?

Shame, did you think that toyota services all those bakkies? Do you think they book them in at BMW Sandton? L O L.
