The South African Funeral Parlour Association is going to fight Old Mutual on behalf of the family, they say because of this drastic action by the family proper rituals were not done for the deceased and therefore the soul is still at the Old Mutual office. They want Old Mutual to bear the costs of ensuring that proper rituals are done.

They are just wasting their time truly, they would be fortunate to even be heard in court, the case should be dismissed on the spot.

Unless if they are doing this just to embarrass Old Mutual even more.

How the hell do you have a body taken to OM. When my dad died, my mother wasn't allowed to take the body anywhere. It had to stay in the mortuary.

People don't realize insurances are NOT for your benefit. Its a business plain and simple. And its goal is to make money. So whatever reason they can find to deny your claim is a plus for their business.

I had a friend of the family who was declined death benefits for a family member because they had passed away due to what the insurer said was health causes related to being in a wheelchair. The actual policy WAS specificsally tailored for a disabled person taken out 20 years ago and clearly indicated the person was disabled... Only after the Ombudsman got involved did they miraculously pay out.
That is the reality unfortunately.

You simply tell the mortuary you want the body delivered on Monday, mortuary delivers the body and you take it to Old Mutual.

So no law stops a body, possibly contaminated, spreading disease, by being removed and then taken into public spaces? Health risks? Serious question.
The family had to do what they had to do.
