Mother was told removing body from mortuary was health risk. Body had to be taken direct to the funeral place for cremation. That's all she can recall.

Oh cremation, now I understand.

Black people do things slightly different.

We mostly do burials on a Saturday, mortuary delivers the body on a Friday afternoon. It sometimes happen that the burial is during the week, in that case the body would be delivered on the day before the funeral.

Now suppose you have issues like this family, you wait for the body, it arrives in the afternoon, wake up early in the morning and take the body to Old Mutual. Sort your things out, come back and continue with the business of the day.

It is still a health risk as it has always been, I am sure the family would be in trouble if they were caught or if anyone decides to follow up.

You don't know why they did not pay out.

I'm tired of seeing Old Mutual in the news. At this point I do not care about who is in the wrong or why. After the nonsense with Peter Moyo. I'll hedge my retirement elsewhere.

To add: there are exceptions to the rule of course.

It sounds like a funeral parlour owner drove them there if you listen at the end, he also wants his money...

He'll need to get it from the family. Old Mutual is not going to pay him directly.

Is there an e-mail for the editor of iol.co.za? I would like to inform the editor that it is called ENGLISH p03$. He/she really should give it a shot.

"On Tuesday night, numerous videos emerged on Twitter showing family members carrying the body of a dead family in a body bag from Old Mutual's offices in KZN where it was dropped following the company's alleged refusal to pay out a death benefit."

The whole family died???

Really sad that this family had to go to such lengths to get a funeral policy pay-out.

This does not surprise me one bit; insurance companies look for one or more "technicalities" to justify not settling a claim. If Old Mutual really is at fault here, I hope they compensate the family and review any internal policies linked to assessing claims, if needs be.

People on twitter are cancelling their old mutual policies, and also adding their horrific experiences with Old Mutual.

Seems like a lot of companies care less about the image of their brand, as long as the business is able to stay profitable.

How sure are you they didn't just want a death certificate which home affairs were dragging their heels on?
