There's a server close by to me that uses nitrogen cooling. The cannister (around 200liters) has to be replaced every month. Glad I'm not responsible for the bills...

Um....haven't had chemistry in a few years but nitrogen cooling is the best there is. It costs a crapload, but liquid nitrogen is around -190' celcius. It's boiling point is -195.8' celcius.

No, I think you should be glad you don't have to replace that cold mofo!

That too. It's not too cold on the outside though. Cold, very cold, but not -190' cold. There is a "do not handle without gloves" warning though.

How can it boil at a temperature that's colder than when it's a liquid. Maybe those two number should be the other way around?

Surely that is overkill though? Unless they have Prescott Pentium 4s overclocked to 16GHz of course... Which would probably return the nitrogen as a gas at about 60' anyway.

I don't know much about how servers are run... Why would you need such hectic cooling?

Nitrogen sucks imo because it is <0 and therefore causes problems with ice packing up on stuff (from atmosphere)...then when you switch off the cooling everything is wet.

Ah sorry. It runs at -195 and boils at -190. Anyways.
The server is actually a mother of a server. Cost around half a million and is really state of the art.
