Does anyone know if there is a company that ships to SA? Also, what would SA customs charge on home audio?

I'm interested in Onkyo HT-S9100THX - its around $1000 - so R7,500 - the only place I can find it locally is on a take2 site for R16,000.

You can try Vaughn from smartlifestyle.co.za. I know they deal with Onkyo as well, so i'm sure he will be able to get you a good deal on this system.

Thanks - still waiting for them to get back to me on whether they can demo what they offered.

Why not get the Onkyo TX-SA707(B)?

You can get it via Crescent-Shop.

Thats just a receiver though? I liked the idea of the THX kit - because I don't know enough to spend a fortune upfront, or get ripped off.

Excellent system, thinking of getting one myself. Horrible conversion to Rands though. Made for medium to large rooms. Just don't use it to up-convert DVD's and you'll be fine ;)

Ok. However, if you find something, you can source the Nakamichis, Denons and Onkyo's direct from Japan. Crescent Shop is great for that. I've used them many times before. Some models are domestic release only, ususally superior to international versions.

Also great to purchase from YJ! auctions. To find stuff on YJ! - Rinkya is great. It translates too.

I sometimes find stuff via Rinkya and buy with C-S.

Also, what would SA customs charge on home audio?

If ever you get stuff from overseas ask them to mark the package as a gift. That way you won't have to pay customs charges.
That system looks awesome.

R7500 is a really decent price for that kit.... R16k is excessive in my opinion.

Yeh - looks like the Onkyo and Polk system would be way better at that price.

Also want to go check the Wharfdale Diamond 10 series - apparently they're pretty decent, and won't break the bank.

Amazon seem to have this kit at $990...

Would love to know how take2 can justify R16k on this then...

I brought a Onkyo system like that in from the US via wantitall 2 years ago.

The price was much higher that the US price, but I got the complete set for about what I would be charged for the amp only by the local agents. Downside was the US 110V plus on all the parts, so I had to get a beefy 220 to 110 convertor, and the region1 DVD player.

Even though wantitall was expensive, they "ripped the ring" less than the local agents!

The direct from Japan option sounds promising - I might try it when I upgrade my amp.

Cheers
Ian
