Online shopping comparison - Takealot vs Loot vs Makro

Makro has performed surprisingly well in MyBroadband's latest online shopping comparison.

South Africans have increasingly embraced online shopping in recent months and with Black Friday on the horizon, many will shopping for the best deals rather than risking the queues, crowds, and overall mayhem accompanying physical store visits on the day.

Today Loot informed me that it'll take more than two weeks for my phone to arrive - I ordered this last week Monday. (So much for their 4-6 days for dispatch that they advertised for the product)

I could've had it in my hands within 72 hours had I bought the same phone from Takealot, it would've cost R400 more from them tho.

My previous phone died unexpectedly, so it's a bit of a struggle for at least the next week - because of Loot's incompetence.

Sorry for the rant, its just ironic that this article came out today...

Unfair comparison
Makro cannot do same-day delivery to me here in Somerset West

Will continue to use Takealot thank you

EDIT: Makro uses OneCart to do their deliveries and they cannot deliver to me at all. I'm less than 50km away

If anyone can beat takealot then they are really good. Takealot is the standard.

Nothing gets even close to Takealot....

BUT most importantly...your article AND opening line is BUNK:

  • By ALL standards, surveys and public experience and feedback, Takealot beats the other 2 hands down.
  • You only mention Makro in your OP opening line.
  • Loot did the best of the 3 in this singular "experiment".

It's pretty bad, but so is the search facility on Dischem's website and the one on Builders Warehouse.
Probably the same cheapo web designer responsible.
haven't used dischem's one enough to get annoyed. builders is also pretty terrible. for makro though, this is the most amusing/infuriating thing: the more words you put in, the more results you get. but search for them individually, then the numbers don't even add up. ‍♂️

You made sure that the item is in stock, but 2 items are local whereas the 3rd one has to come from Cape Town.
How on earth is that a fair comparison?
In order to test delivery times you focus on ordering the same item, as if that would have an influence on delivery times, but not on the warehouse locations. You could have ordered any other capacity USB stick from takealot JHB.
I hope you never complain about government incompetence because you have no reason to do so.

how did you manage to find something with makro's website search? i rate their search as probably the worst i've ever used.
This.

If I'm searching for something specific at makro, I have to use Google search to find and link it to makro website.

Using makro's very own search engine is as useful as hemorrhoids.

I think its just nice to see other stores at least getting into the online game, they all need to start somewhere. Once they find there feet hopefully we can get a more competitive online scene in South Africa

Takealot's search is pretty useless too

It does add up.
Every time you add a search term it searches for that word seperately - no context to the other words whatsoever

15686 + 9565 = 25251

and before someone says "but it's finding in 'garden axe' items that make up the difference!"
