My mom will spend over 45 minutes at any retailer and sometimes buy 3 or 4 products. She is a bargain hunter, unfortunately i don't follow her footsteps or else I would go insane. Very impatient :)

Well I take at least an hour because I go into a sort of a trance in the supermarket and wander around aimlessly, forgetting what I came to buy and instead buying all sorts of "special offers" that I don't even eat..

Next time make a list and take it with you and focus on buying those.

Also if you can't find something man up and ask someone it saves tons of time :D.

Now days you get apps that can save your shopping list. Would be nice to have a real live time

Tried it for the first time last night ; delivery on Thursday.

I saw the substitute/no substitute option but said they can do it if they're out of stock. BUT thinking now - what I get PnP everything? PnP Cola, PnP Toilet rolls etc? That said - if they run out of Coke, I know they're talking BS

Quite a clever way to push your product

I wasn't paying attention to the substitute/no substitute option when processing the transaction but now I will remember for future purchases. What they should have done during the checkout stage ask you if you want to substitute - dog food shouldn't be substituted unless it's from the same brand( Chicken, Lamb, Beef, etc). Noticed they substituted Pedigree dog good weight 8 KG but got a packet of 7.5 KG instead surely they should pay attention to the weight of dog food.

Only reason why I did the whole online purchase delivery cos I don't have a car currently and don't want to inconvenience people.

Remember the substitute option is only available for 2 or 3 products. Now I have over 10 bags of No NAME dog food, need to place another order, another R75 down the drain :)

They should work on a live environment! If they out of stock they should have the courtesy to mail you back. What I found disappointing - they do not send you email communication back once the order is processed during checkout stage.

Imagine selecting NO substitute and no stock is available on selected delivery date! You most probably will get charged delivery fee

Used Woollies, PnP (serviced from Norwood Hyper) and Thrupps (Illovo) for many years. Works well 95% of the time. Any issues (eg wrong quantities, items left off) are quickly resolved with a phone call or email. For a while the only hassle was PnP unable to meet the delivery window, but Thrupps and Woollies were punctual. Would still be using this, but not available now since I emigrated from Joburg.

Tried Pick n Pay once and wouldn't bother doing so again. They failed to deliver a number of basic items, apparently due to not having stock, but every single item is always in stock at the local branches, and the result was that we had to go to shopping anyway. They also didn't apply discounts that were in force at the time the order was placed. Their terms and conditions presented when we placed the order stated they will not call to ask about substitutes, and that these must be specified at the time of placing the order. They didn't call us. Delivery fee is also steep. If it was half what it is now and they could guarantee delivery of everything we order along with accurate prices we'd consider using them again, but right now it's more hassle than it is worth.

They also need to make their web site professional. At the moment the quality of product pictures and information is really substandard.

I wish I could order groceries online. Unfortunately , no-one delivers out in the sticks, so I'm stuck with driving into the shops and buying it myself.

Hi Brrian

I experienced the same problem with Pick N Pay at the time during checkout the price stipulates R 79,93 per bag for Bobtail 8 KG, placed a large order on dog food different flavours. Look and behold out of about 30 bags I ordered every bag was No Name dog food. Unfortunately that is not a substitute in my book as Bob martin & Bob tail are superior quality compared to their no name ***! Opened a bag of their crappy dog food, clearly my dogs refuse to eat. I would take them up on their "Double Money Back Gurantee" as I am not satisfied with their product! I can take it that route but want them to refund me all packets of dog food & collect it.

Already in communication with the manager at first they didn't want to do refunds me but managed to rant my complain on every social media platform(HelloPeter,Twitter,Call centre). They manager promised they would come collect the dog food and give me a credit but his driver never pitched was at home the whole day.

If PnP No Name dog food is a substitute for dog food brands like Bob Martin,Bob tail and Pediagree which are far more superior in quality then I don't know any more. They store was probably just looking at their interest(profits_ at the end of the day(Normally their PnP No Name dog food on promotion R60), everyone knows when dog food like Bob martin & Bob tail are on promotion you actually save R30 per bag to - R50 per bag.

As you have mentioned "OUT OF STOCK" and they don't "honour the prices during checkout" which is ridiculous - the price you see is the price you pay! Ordered a variety of dog food flavours - everything was sold out and they substitute No Name crap! .

My mum in the UK broke her leg not long ago and had to do all her shopping online via Tesco. What a pleasure. They do substitute items when they're not available but the substitutes are of a higher quality. The delivery guys carted her stuff down to her kitchen and packed it all away. These days she either has them deliver or she orders online and picks it up at the local tesco (they bring everything out to the car and load it for her).

FWIW they're really jacked up over there. Apart from the normal checkout lines they also have self-service checkouts and now hand scanners so you can essentially check out while you're shopping. They also compare the cost of certain goods with other chains and will refund you the difference if you could have got those items cheaper elsewhere.

OP, did you eat some of that dreaded No Name dog food? Is that what makes you type like you do?
