As far as I can tell online sports betting is legal in South Africa, but I can't tell if any site is allowed or if the sites have to be licensed in SA.

Anyone?

As far as I know, it's only licensed sites ......

that being said, I used to use Betfair with no issue.

No, online sports betting is legal. The majority are registered with the Western Cape Gambling board. The company that I work for just got the newest license and will be launching soon.

So you can pick and choose from voltbet, betfair.co.za, bet.co.za, etc.

Remeber though you need to be FICA'ed when you want to play. So all the usual documents you will need to supply.

Not too sure by offshore companies, but why dont u try some of the local ones. The majority uses the same system as what the overseas companies uses namely betrader for the odds.

If you really want to challange yourself, you can try the Greeks sport betting. As the company I work for runs the biggest betting book in the world at roughly 3 billion euros in Greece.

They probably in bed together, just a partnership, but hey I'm not saying you must use local sites. Just think that if you hit a big one and SARS get's hold of it you might be your winnings short.

Take it or leave it, up to you.

Agreed. They will have full rights to confiscate your winnings.

Please supply the link where it says the sports betting site has to be licensed in South Africa.

I turned my initial R300 deposit into R1,570.00. Requested a withdrawal, lets see how long it takes to hit my bank account.

It should be quick satanboy. Back in the day I had to send them a copy of my ID in order to be paid but it does not look like they require that anymore. I also started using them again this year for Super Rugby betting.

And if any South African betting sites wonder why we would rather use Bet365, then just go look at their site. It's light years ahead of anything I could find here.

It's not a question about ease of use or offerings, it was whether it was legal or not. If a site does not have a online license from a respective South African gambling board, then it is termed illegal gambling. Think of it similar to fishing, anyone can grab a rod and reel and fish but if you don't display a fishing license when asked, your catch is confiscated and you are fined.

I replied to the post right above mine. Not to his first question about the legality. He wondered how long it will take them to pay him and I told him about my experience. What did you think I was talking about when I said it would be quick? Did you really think I was writing some random paragraph that has nothing to do with the original question and then told me what the original question was about? I believe that the first question has already been answered.

You answered it again though after he already said he was being paid by them.

I would love to use South African betting sites but they will have to improve the experience drastically. Hence my second paragraph in the post.

I hope all that made sense. :)

So South Africans can use Bet365 with no issues? What about Betfair?

Technically no, you can't actually use either. You can only place bets on sports on sites that are licensed in South Africa.
