Only 24% of South Africans are paying their TV licences
The SABC has published its annual report for the 2019/2020 financial year in Parliament on Tuesday, revealing that less than a quarter of TV Licences were paid over the period.

The total value billed is R3 137 336 000Source: https://www.sabc.co.za/sabc/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/SABC_AR_2019_.pdf

If we take the billed value (3 137 336) divided by the license fee (R265), then we get to 11 839 persons billed.
Maybe I'm missing something?
Nothing wrong with @Nod's math... just didn't read the financial statement correctly.Maths Literacy:

Nod your best moment mathematically: See the top of the chart: directly below 2019.... R'000
It is not 3 137 336, but actually 3 1373 36 000.
There's probably far more who watch it, but don't pay a license. And how does that compare to the percentage of South Africans actually watching SABC content?
I'd be surprised if any SABC employees, including SABC executives, and the whole of the ANC, and all government employees, have ever paid their TV licence.I'd be surprised if more than 24% of their employees paid TV licence.
some idiots actually think that's a credible threat, just yesterday I heard a voice note on CapeTalk where a very upset tannie was saying exactly that: oh these inconsiderate evil non-payers, they should have a system similar to DSTV so they can cut them off if they don't payI kinda wish there was a way they could cut access to SABC for non payment. The laughter that would cause when they threaten it would be epic.
And the rest have died.Rubbish
Most of those people have left the country for good
Viva ANC![]()
FTFY, dont trust a single stat these fools come out with.
Assuming that there are at least a few million foreigners in SA, that leaves about 55 million South Africans, 24% of that is 13.2 million TV Licences being paid.
Nope I don't think the SABC has that many rows in its Excel spreadsheet (aka "the database"), 24% of South Africans paying must be incorrect.
The first part about the SABC mess is 100% accurate.
That makes more sense, except I'm surprised it is as high as 24%.
Actually the vast majority do watch it and don't pay.some idiots actually think that's a credible threat, just yesterday I heard a voice note on CapeTalk where a very upset tannie was saying exactly that: oh these inconsiderate evil non-payers, they should have a system similar to DSTV so they can cut them off if they don't pay
completely oblivious to the fact that the vast majority of non-payers simply don't watch that SABC crap in the first place and would fall over from laughter if they were threatened with being cut off from it
would like to see some credible stats on that, I really doubt itActually the vast majority do watch it and don't pay.
