Only one mobile network passed ICASA standards in Port Elizabeth

MyBroadband’s mobile voice network quality testing revealed that MTN is the only network that passes the Icasa’s requirements in Port Elizabeth.

Icasa gazetted its amendments to the End-user and Subscriber Charter regulations in March 2023, which sets out the standard of service South Africans should expect from mobile operators.

Will believe these results... Lots of one way or no connection calls and we aren't even in Summerstrand. Log a call get told shared towers are oversubscribed... Sigh... Definitely considering MTN now

Voice that hardly anyone uses maybe, for DATA MTN sucks chickens.

Shameel Joosub what's happening with Vodacom? Vodacom once had the best network by far... and that justified a higher premium. Not sure that competitive advantage exists anymore.

Sorry to hear that. I get insane data speeds and excellent latency on MTN in PE. This is mostly around Walmer. And I'm on Afrihost, which runs through MTN.

That was a very long time ago. MTN has been slaying technical comparisons for possibly over a decade now.

I can't speak for the other networks but I know the main reason for the poor VODACOM call quality is VoLTE, it's basically the only cause for sound not carrying over call on either or both sides while the call stays connected, also often causes calls to fail to connect, some phones can disable it but others have to be switched off from the network's side, you can test by droping mobile data down to 3G.

> Beachwalk does its name justice, located only 100m from the Kings Beach beachfront.

@Jan I think you mean Hobie Beach :)

Was the CellC SIM a prepaid or contract e.g. was it on the virtual MTN network or did it roam on Vodacom?

I am on Cell C contract and my phone reception is so bad it is useless... Ending the contract in June, but not sure who to port to. It does feel like CellC on Vodacom is worse than Vodacom straight-up. The terrible part of the story is that Cell C phoned me for a device upgrade and politely told me I can downgrade my package because I am hardly using my Data allocation. The poor innocent sales guy had to hear me blow up about the fact that I am not using my data allocation because the network doesn't allow me to.

To be honest, I never had many issues, until the writing of this article. In this past month, signal strength in areas where I work have gotten worse, and am not able to connect to the network and receive calls/internet in places I ordinarily did. Very poor reflection of vodacom
