Fellows,

How many of you are using browser accelerators such as OnSpeed or Google´s Web Accelerator, and how successful have you been in speeding up browsing via the MTN Data service?

I have found that Google Web Accelerator actually improves download speed slightly.

Installed OnSpeed last night (paid R299 refundable within 14 days) and had GREAT results. However, this morning it started playing up with refusing to completely open web pages (specifically Google Mail, Hotmail and even MyBroadband). I am surprised at this???

Also, using DAP for downloads, getting up to 150 kbps download speeds on bad nights. You might want to look at it, www.speedbit.com.

Let´s hear your thoughts.

I speak under correction, but when the International link is down or slow, then Onspeed is useless because all your data requests is cached and compressed on the Onspeed servers before they reach you.

Alpha,

AFAIK Google Web Accelerator can be used worldwide, in fact I took it from the www.google.co.za website. Having some marginal improvement on browsing.

internaut,

You might have a point there, perhaps it explains why OnSpeed sometimes works great whilst other times it actually does not even complete the display of websites. And yes, the incomplete websites are all international links.

Looks like MTN needs to do some work on their international link...

Hi,

You may also want to try out Fasterfox for Firefox!

DD,

Have been in contact with OnSpeed's customer care centre for the past few days in an effort to optimize my OnSpeed experience. In fact OnSpeed slowed my connection down.

Can you please do a route trace to their server by typing the following command in your command prompt screen : tracert helium.onspeed.com and post a screenshot or email to me. I would like to compare my route trace time to yours. Mine took extremely long (22 hops) with some timeouts along the way. BTW they recommend me connecting to their server called coyote.onspeed.com.
