Hell, only 150k Km and your hoses look like this. Have you ever opened your bonnet before? You should have seen the coming trouble long before it came to this stage of decay.:D

Agreed...looks like pretty crappy workmanship as well, to allow pipes to chafe eachother like that! Glad i don't own an Opel!!

Your best bet if you don’t want to take it to Opel is join the http://www.opelownersforum.co.za
They are always willing to help and know there stuff.
There advice helped me find my problem after Opel couldn’t tell me what the problem was (after 2 days worth of diagnostics)
If you find the right guys they will even help you fix it.

I never have to open the bonnet, the car never gives me troubles. 3 days before it had to go in for the 150,000km service I noticed it was running a little hot so I opened the bonnet and for the first time in 4 years I had a look at the coolant reservoir - yep - the car is that reliable :p

Anyways I noticed it was empty, topped it up, later noticed some antifreeze on the driveway and then I found the hose. Called the Bosch repair shop where the car was booked for the 150,000km service and they ordered the part.

These cars are not assembled that way and currently the hoses are not touching. I guess the previous owner had the car serviced somewhere bad (perhaps their local GM service center) and they bent the hoses that way.

Nice and easy.

How many KMs do you have on it ?

When my Astra went in for its 2nd cambelt service last year with 150,000km on the clock I had to replace this hose assembly at the same time since it worn through by the netting cover from another hose :

At the same time they replaced the water pump since they already removed the cambelt and it would save labor cost should I had to do it something in the future.

Hi,

Just done over 200 000KM. Think the Cambelt has been replaced once

Car was just in for a service less than 10 000km ago

Hi

Will definitely join the forums thanks

As stated previously I don't have much faith in General Motors

They day my 100 000km warranty ran out I started going to private workshops and overall I have been more satisfied with the service

Even though I complain about whats wrong with the car I need to mention whats right with it too. After my last service with Journeyman Motors in Benoni I have managed to get the best in town consumption from a tank of petrol since the car was brand new and consistently tank after tank

I am now averaging between 8.8 - 9.0 litres per 100 k/m and getting close to 600km out of a tank. Wonder if this is related to the lack of performance

When I used to take my car to general motors I was averaging about 10.7 - 11.00 and being luck if I managed 480 km out of a tank

Any other Astra 2.0 litre drivers around? What sort of consumptions of you manage?

Well check to see if you also have damage on that hose, it is at the back of the engine going through the firewall.

The Astra G petrol models needs to be serviced every 15,000km and the cambelt needs replacement every 75,000km, so in your case the cambelt should have been replaced twice already. Apparently cooling system fixes are common on models with 150,000+ km on the clock.

GM services was good for, but not the best. Since I started having mine serviced at Bosch I have been a lot happier.

I guess your experience with General Motors is just luck of the draw

Or else someone put a vodoo curse on me

I have literally been from one GM to another trying to find decent service and eventually gave up after the car reached 100 000km

I think I was cursed from day one as I bought my Astra brand spanking new back in 2002 but the day it was to be delivered I was told that the truck that was delivering it had been in an accident and the car had fallen off :(

I was told that I was too get the next one off the production line but to this day I believe they just sent mine back for repairs
