Opel Astra Right Rear-View Mirror - I need One!

My wife was driving back from Pretoria and was getting stuck in-between a truck and the chevrons in the fast lane. One of the chevrons was sticking too far into the fast lane and whacked off the rear-view mirror on the driver's side. She could not avoid it cos the truck was on the other side. You guys know how narrow those lanes are? So what now? The mirror was lost and I am sure it was scrunched under all the other cars.

1) Do I contact SANRAL and make a claim?
2) Do I go to the dealer and buy a new one?
3) Do I find a scrap yard and get one? and who knows of a scrapyard?
4) Do I just steal one from another Kadett or Monza or Astra? They are all the same shape.

LOL... sorry. I meant the wing mirror. I didn't know what else to call it. You use it to view what is to your rear.

Anyways... do you have anything constructive to add to the thread?

Yes. The dealers sell replacements at a ridiculous price especially the electric ones. I took mine of on someones gooseneck intercom. They also come in plain white so you then need to get it painted to match the car. Luckily mine was white.

However, I do believe Autostyle sell non-genuine replacements. Maybe try them?

That's a nice link! See a mirror costs R295...that's about the price a Dealer charges you to simply walk in the door!!

No they don't. You're thinking of the Holden (Chev Lumina). Opel is a german company, until recently owned by GM. Opel make some pretty nice cars that we don't get in SA though! Have a look at their international site.
