If you step on the pedal, do you feel a powerloss? If so, check sparkplugs. most probably that :)

Basically could be almost anything... Compression loss due to damaged valves, dirty fuel, bad sparks, clutch, injection system.... etc...

More data required:
Is it missing or backfiring?
Does it rev properly when in neutral
Are there any warning lights on the dash
Is the engine temp normal
can you smell something burning?
How bad is the power loss? Is the engine revving without delivering power or is is spluttering and stalling?

I dont know of any good mechanic on Astras.
Do you have any mechanic in mind that you can refer me to?
I'm in Midrand but the car is in Krugersdop.

Tell the Mechanic to check the "HD leads" and the "Suppressors."

Could be from all the rain we've been having.
Did you drive through a big puddle?
