At last some beautiful and funky alternatives from the boredom on our roads. It is also confirmed that Opel Eye (road sign reading feature also licensed to Mercedes) will be available on the Mokka SUV.

The Kuga is not even close to the same class. Mokka competes with EcoSport.

It took a while but at least some funky Opels in good old RSA...pity only Q1 & Q2 of 2015.

These cars were shown at JIMS in Oct last yr & public reception was clearly good...can't fathom the long "approval" process...

Yes... and SX4. I see the article throws in the ASX as a competitor, which is actually one class up. A Qashqai competitor.

The reason for the delay is because GMSA was still making up its mind about Opel. GM sees it is a regional brand for mainland Europe, just like Vauxhall is their UK regional brand and Deawoo is a regional brand in Korea. All other countries where GM is present has to make do with their global brand, Chevrolet.

When GMSA announced they would pull Opel from SA things did not go that well, partly because of the global crisis GM was in and also because people that would have bought Opel would not necessarily buy a Chevrolet instead.

So now Opel is positioned as a premium brand for GMSA and they are very picky about what models they bring into SA.
