So I eventually got around to opening up my new Capitec account. I thought it rather ironic that it took less time to do it than what it took to order the KFC I had for lunch afterwards.

Can say without a doubt that Capitec is first when it comes to ease of opening an account and customer service.

I am aware of the limitation of using the account and that is why for now its just our savings account for a cruise we are going on next year.

Going to open up another account for the nanny on Monday as the branch actually speaks Afrikaans to all the clients. Unlike the ABSA, Nedbank, FNB & Standard Bank that for some reason is convinced that everyone in the Cape only speaks Engrish now.

Limitations are inernational banking and I still need to confirm with the bank if still means you cannot receive money from overseas as well (I get money from my mom in OZ each year for the kids).

The internet banking does not have preloaded accounts like Telkom, etc and a lot of guys complain about paying them. I avoid debit orders so this is still important for me.

@markface You only need R10 to open up an account. I would say spend the cash and check it out. You only need your ID and proof of residence.

Yo Lino, yes. I was rather suprised at how neat it was. I thought I would feel unsafe there do to its location but my elderly neighbour (80 something) reassured me that he has never had a problem with safety.

I have been using capitec for about a year now an honestly I love it. The nature of my business means I usually have a couple of grand in my account and the low fees and high interest ensure I only pay about thirty bucks a month nett.

Also moved my fiance and a couple of my clients over and all are happy.

As soon as I have some spare time I shall be shutting my ABSA accounts and open a capitec one instead.

Decided today that I am going to go open a Capitec account at Somerset Mall! Sick of FNB bank fees

I tried 3 times to open one at Capitec. Being a student, I'm not fortunate enough to own a house, so 1) they didn't accept affidavit from my parents that I live with them, 2) they didn't accept my folks' bills + that affidavit, 3) they didn't accept my parents who were RIGHT there with me and my dad who has an account with them already.

Capitec can go choke on a brick. Standard bank, on the other hand, took 5 minutes.

Went to Capitec at Somerset Mall. What an absolute waste of time, they only had three people working. No one greets you, all of them were busy. After waiting for 30 minutes they were all still busy??? NO one could turn round and say, sorry sir we will be with you shortly.

So I eventually got tired of this and walked out!

Have not been to Somerset Mall but very impressed with the one at Shoprite. They are busy but they have a hostess checking you have the required documents and are in the correct queue - saved me 30minutes wait as last week when I opened up the bank account for Nanny, I made a typo on her confirmation of address letter.

You cannot blame a bank for implementing the requirements of RICA. My neighbour works at ABSA and confirmed the anal requirements of RICA if you have no proof or residence as per RICA. The only way we could get a letter of residential address confirmation accepted by the bank for the Nanny was because she is on my wifes business payroll (CC) and we had an official letterhead that they could use to confirm the existence of the business.

Both Capitec and Standard Bank had FICA. Standard Bank gave me a form which I filled out and my folks signed. Hand in, 5 minutes later, bank account. Capitec wouldn't even believe me that I live with them when I brought them there myself.

I thought about the one at Shoprite (as you mentioned it last week), however as I had my wife with me I was not prepared to take her with to a taxi rank. The one at Somerset Mall is shocking and quite frankly left me with a sour taste in my mouth.
