I have been with Capitec for a number of years now, initially they didn't have Telkom, City of Tshwane etc. preloaded, but they have been there for awhile now, so makes paying those accounts a breeze.

My wife had an issue with FICA documentation at the Mall@Reds branch in Centurion, and couldn't open an account, but a week later we went to the Jakaranda branch, and opened an account successfully with the same documentation. Can't remember what the issue was.

She still has her main account at FNB, but uses the Capitec one for savings, and said that she will move over entirely from FNB at a later stage.

I'm glad your wife managed to finally open an account but should it not actually be a bit concerning, security-wise, that a person can go from one branch to another and open an account where they had difficulty at a previous branch. Here I am thinking of people with actual criminal intent. There doesn't seem to be standard procedure between the various branches. If you look back at the recent issues clients have had at Capitec Bank.
(Please note, NO reference is made to the wife here, just the situation concerning bad people)

Going to switch over to them this Sunday. Will post our experiences here.

Wizzit is not delivering the same level of service any more.

On Saturday had time to open an account with Capitec at first was very skeptical to open an account due to FICA documents etc, walk into the branch with my passport, original rates and taxes at first I thought they would turn me away cause I had a South African Passport normally when I try get anything done at NedBank they want to see an original ID or Drivers license or refuse to help me which is ridiculous and unacceptable as it is proof of identity cause clearly on my passport there is an ID number... Upon entering their branch I have a nice feeling of welcome cause the environment is colourful, seats are comfortable and more than enough staff to attend everyone. Manager assists me cause she is standing by the issue/take (a) number machine, wants to see all the necessary documentation are in order before wasting their time if I don't have the supporting document needed - all in order. . Then she issues me a number takes about 2 minutes later they call my number and a consultant is assigned to me. She mentions the product, fees involved , very friendly consultant the best I have ever dealt with someone who loves her job and has a passion for what she does.
.
I didn't have to fill in any paperwork whatsoever, the consultant(admin work) captures/scans all the necessary documentations, 10 minutes later we are done but stay longer in the branch to add a supplementary card R40 cost...

Service is superb, the consultant told me they are already offering home loans in Johannesburg only and later this year they might introduce a credit card.

Only thing I didn't like about Capitec that they charge you every time you receive an SMS 40cents(cash deposit, cash withdrawal etc) ,going to go into branch and change the notifications amount which will be another cost R3 something
I found the process quite a mission. They don't accept all the documents they have on their official list. Despite their electronic systems, everything had to printed out in triplicate. The fingerprint scanner was faulty, and they do every finger on both hands. The card was also an issue because if you type in 5 selected pin entries, it automatically destroys it, and they have to start again. Getting internet banking going on an iPhone was also a huge problem (tried it 5 times at 3 branches) and eventually arrived at my own solution since they could not.

The local ATM is so busy at the end of the week, there is a queue of 50 all day.

I like the idea of this bank and the cheaper rates, but they need to jack up their account systems.

I found the process a mission last year and gave up cause they didn't want to accept a South African passport. Only made time this weekend that passed normally I would say I will come around doing it and actually did. I even asked the consultant that I wanted a copy of everything I signed - don't like signing my life away without actually taken home a copy and reading through it thoroughly. The branch I opened my account, everything was operational except their copier ran out of paper.

The small town where I opened the account approx 200 people lining up or more to withdraw money and there are 2 Capitec branches within walking distance from one another.

I will definitely get the security token for R60, last year it was R50...

Definitely cheaper compared to the green bank. They charged me R8 once to purchase prepaid airtime was furious but this fee was only discovered once I went into the bank for printed statement.

What do you mean jack up their account system ? Did you find a back door ?
