Openserve’s ADSL shutdown - CEO explains

Openserve – the wholesale connectivity division of Telkom Group – has explained why it is discontinuing its wholesale ADSL offering in certain areas around the country.

Openserve recently told ISPs that it would shut down ADSL services in areas where it offered fibre connectivity.

This change will be effected on 1 September 2020. A full list of the areas where Openserve DSL customers must migrate to fibre is available here.

I just want a interactive type map showing where fiber providers are planning to roll out next and what the potential delays are. My area is roughly 10km away from where the fiber roll out was stopped and there has been zero movement in the 4 years to get us connected. Numerous providers have been contacted with all of them unable to give us any form of answer as to what is going on. I suspect its the municipality and their wayleaves charges that are holding the rollout back... <_<

So ADSL will be shut down where FTTC exists - those consumers then get 'fibre' delivered via FTTC with copper last mile? What's that sold as? FTTC 'Fibre' to differentiate from FTTH & FTTB?

What about areas with no FTTC?

It's about time FIBRE coverage maps are updated. I live in Mahikeng North West province. There is fibre network in some parts of urban areas but there is no up to date fibre maps on the net. Lichtenburg also have fibre coverage so please update your maps

Telkom doesn't have fibre here, it's Vumatel. Now they want to cancel dsl. Way to do business. First let other providers take market share and now give it to them.

Was checking openserve coverage map a couple of weeks ago. My address was not in the database and the map looked wrong. On the map it had the Umbogintwini golf course, the funny thing is the golf course was redeveloped 12 year ago into Arbour Crossing shopping mall and Galleria Mall. At least the guys and girls playing golf has fibre

I signed up for adsl, I do not want fibre, so cancel my subs when you cannot provide the service I signed up for.
As I understand it, all the fibre connections are joined to each other, accessible from little plastic covers on everybodys lawn, so one idjut can cut the wires in one place and the whole district goes down.
