Openserve home fibre price hikes — Big ISPs detail changes

South Africa's biggest fibre Internet service providers (ISPs) are implementing varying price hikes on Openserve fibre-to-the-home packages from April 2024 due to the fibre network operator's upcoming wholesale price increases.

MyBroadband first became aware of the price adjustments after Axxess emailed customers its updated pricing on Friday.

Everything is getting more and more expensive and I don't think it is cheap to keep the internet going during loadshedding. So one can understand the increase.

Mweb won’t share increases because since the 1st March 2023 the increases have been numerous. In March 23 increase from R499 to R559 then dec 23 to R609 then now April 24 toR669. So from feb 23 to April 24 that’s R169! Plus they are also claiming a speed increase in April which is also a lie as it’s the same as it was in dec 23.

Would be interesting to see stats of the average percentages of just how much more data users consume when upgraded to higher speeds.

The trend I have noticed is that it is pedal to the metal at first, but once the novelty has worn off, users tend to settle back into their original usage patterns.

I have had the same issue. Never bothered to ask me if i wanted a speed upgrade. I was happy on what i was on. I have not cancelled mweb and looking at moving someone else. Not sure who to sign up with. I just want a company that has a direct line and not a sharecall. And one that has a whatsapp line for tech issues.

I was so pissed at mweb for price increases. 3x within a year, a total of R169. Just cancelled them. Now to decide who to go with. Just want to have various ways to contact them if need be. Mweb was shocking at often sat for 2 hours trying to get hold of them

Interestingly enough I found out via this article that WebAfrica seems to be overcharging me - I'm paying R1047 per month on OpenServe 100/100 Mbps, and then an extra R29 a month for a static IP (which I requested).

Is this just me?

Will be contacting them a bit...
