Openserve install fibre costs when fibre is on telephone poles

I recently had a requirement to have fibre installed at my home. The fibre in my area was installed in parallel with the telephone lines on the telephone poles - no underground ducts or trenches. The problem I had was trying to determine what it was going to cost me to get fibre installed.

1. Is there any good places to get information regarding installation costs for fibre?

The ISP (who was providing to cover the installation costs) was stating in the Ts and Cs: "The Installation Fee includes cabling up to 8 Meters. " and with costs of R160/m floating around for additional lengths I was very worried. I mean my house is 25m away from the nearest telephone pole! I therefore contacted OpenServe who responded (I was very surprised to get a response) with "NB: Once you’ve placed your order with your Internet Service Provider, please direct all your queries directly to your Internet Service Provider and not Openserve." in a very techni?-coloured e-mail. So I contacted the service provider and they responded with: "Please note yes Openserve covers 8 metres, to clarify all this a tech will have to come out to install but do a site survey first then you can give them the go head according to the costs "

In the end I took a fat chance and placed an order. Long story short, the tech came out to install and think I was crazy to ask for a quote and responded with: "I only came to install, no quote". But the fibre was installed to the usual Openserve standard and no additional costs for the extra length - cable ended up being about 40m. At least it works.

So, all that homework for nothing. Had I known the installation would have been covered by the ISP with no cost to me I would not have hesitated so long to have fibre installed. From what I could understand the 8m mentioned was for the case where digging or trenching was required, so not applicable in my case.

I hope someone in a similar situation would find the above helpful.

Any one with a similar experience?
