And I'm seeing maybe it's best to buy a capped account then ... Like 400gig is about 399 (must check how much I've been using pm on my uncapped 10 meg)

Edit: did mybroadband not post a comparative pricing between isps for capped data pm ?

I have Telkom fibre through Openserve on month to month, and using my Vox account with it.

Holy Moly.... I have 1.6TB in the bank and free night Gigs. I am planning to take the 100mb/s Openserve Fibre package through Webafrica with a 40Gb Capped for R898 and then use my Fatpipe data with the Webafrica as a backup. Hopefully it will work the same.

Just make sure, I spoke to Vox this morning about installing fiber at my house and I asked if I can use my fat pipe account that we all got on promotion and he said I can't and that's only for ADSL. But seems like the above poster is doing just that without issues - so only one way to find out, trial and error

I have a theory, without the technical knowledge to back it up. I have read many posts about the fact the Openserve passes through the Telkom IPC like ADSL - this is a bad thing due to bottlenecks at the local Telkom exchanges. I have also seen posts of people saying that Vox Fatpipe does not work with some Fibre providers. Maybe it works with Openserve, because it sees it as an ADSL connection in a way.

Maybe I am just being stupid.

Openserve/Telko fibre goes through IPC, so the account works. Many people, including myself are using Vox Fatpipe accounts on 100MB lines.

Fat Pipe promo accounts do work on Openserve fibre, but Vox won't let you use it.

OK.

You believe that while us with fibre and Vox promo accounts keep using our accounts on it.
I know it works because I'm using a fat pipe promo account on fibre. Vox wouldn't give me fibre without cancelling the promo account and getting a new data account, so I went with ISP Afrika

Openserve & Link Africahave installed fibre in our building, so I have the option of both. I also am currently on the 400GB Vox Promo deal on a 10mb ADSL line.
In your opinion, would I be better off with an uncapped 100mb/s Cool Ideas account for R999, or an ISP Africa/Current Vox DSL data Account. I have loads of data accumulated (2TB+) and never use more than about 250GB data/ month, although that could change on a 100mb/s line maybe.

There's nothing stopping anyone from using a Vox ADSL account on any openserve system that utilizes the IPC system. The only limitation would be trying to use these accounts on other 3rd tier providers (ie. Vuma, Frogfoot, etc) as the accounts wont be able to authenticate, due to different network architectures.

Hi Folks,

Apologies upfront for the noobish questions, but I am new to the world of fiber and would appreciate your valued inputs - specifically regarding the Openserve network.

Recently Openserve completed their installation of fiber on my block (seems they are lighting up areas in my suburb as they complete the installation - Yes, I am officially purple :whistling:)

I am thinking of doing the Openserve fiber with DSL data combo and would really appreciate some guidance on this subject (e.g. can one swap ISP's around freely when using DSL data on an Openserve fiber line ...... somehow I am under the impression that an ISP on a fiber line is kinda "locked" in).

It is also my intention to consider changing my landline to VoIP (as I barely make landline calls, I am thinking that going the VoIP way would be better).

Any inputs/comments on these two points would be greatly appreciated.

I'm getting fibre installed in my flat tomorrow. I applied for the 100mb line with ISPAfrika, and am going to use my 400GB Vox promo with it. I bought my own router, a TP-Link AC1750 Archer C7.
Is there anything router specific I need to configure to get everything working, or is it just a case of entering my vox username and password in the router, and connecting the ONT to my routers WAN port with an ethernet cable?

Just that :)

Thanks for clarifying. Was looking through the setup of the router I have, & it seems it wants me to use dynamic ip as the setup. Only problem is there doesn't seem to be an option to enter the Vox username and password with the Dynamic IP setup. Must I use PPPoe rather? That seems to have the username password option. Anyone have any experience with TP-Link Archer C7 routers?
