Oh I forgot that I had one of those Huawei B315's lying around.
And we're in business baby!

Congrats on getting Fibre even if it was a bit of a battle!

I would have told them I'm building something as as it serves no purpose the pole is getting chopped down.

Glad you sorted.

Oh, and I just realised that I can also use my Afrihost ADSL details as well!

Ok, so that guy is finished now and told me that OpenServe is connected on the other end.
He gave me a code to give to my ISP (Axxess) for them to configure their services.

So now my question is...

Can I hook this Huawei GPON Terminal (EchoLife HG8240H) straight into my network, or does it have to go through a Fibre Router first (Which I don't have yet)?

You need to go through a router with a WAN port on one of it's LAN ports, my ADSL router had such and thus I used it.

Switched from the mweb supplied

ZyXEL_E294

Back to old dsl with WAN port.

TOTO LINK ND300

Much better interface for a cheap old router than the zyxel.

ZyXEL_E294

Had a client who was using a Zyxel router supplied by Telkom. The thing would drop the connection at least once a day.
Swapped it for an Asus, solid connection ever since.

Replaced mine with a Ubiquiti and never looked back one little bit, what a solid piece of kit.

My ZyXEL SBG3300-N has been rock solid and the wifi covers the whole property even out into the street. Different model so maybe uses different chipsets.

Ubiquiti is not really the same type of kit as the stuff you get on a shop shelve...

Nope it isn't but it's well worth the extra layout for something above any self router in terms of reliability alone.

So OpenServe has been installing fibre in our area.
They have already come and strung the fibre on the poles and mounted the boxes.
My neighbour already has his fibre installed (From the Pole on my property).
But I am hitting a brick wall with OpenServe.
They are refusing to install because my driveway is on the wrong road.
When I use the address where the driveway is, they say there is no coverage.
But when I use the address on the side road, then there is coverage.
But they won't let me use that address because there is no entrance there.
I told them that this didn't seem to be a problem for Openserve when they came and mounted the Fibre lines.

OK, so I am still using my Afrihost ADSL account because my Axxess Account is not working yet.
I sent a support ticket to Axxess telling them that my fibre was now active and could they activate the account.
This was the reply I got...
Good day
We have picked up your order however we see that Open Serve has not yet completed your Fibre order. We will only be able to activate your fibre line once the order has been fully signed off and completed on our end.
Thank you
Regards,
Axxess
So I called the Technician who installed my line and he said "Please call openserve on 10213 give them your B410000***. 10213 is free from land line.
So then I called Telkom on 10213 and they said...
We don't see any order from Axxess on our system, but there is an outstanding Telkom order.
So, despite Telkom telling me that I couldn't get fibre because of coverage, they actually left the order open.
So I got the lady to cancel the Telkom order, and she said I must go back to Axxess again, who will have to let me know when the fibre is activated.
Dunno how long that is going to take.

When installing the fibre cable did they provide identification, Telkom/Openserve are busy in our backyard but says ID is in the bakkie somewhere..

Some snaps of the cable, they busy tightening it now.
