Fertility is going to fall off a cliff in the next 10 years - it is going to be way below replacement rate in first world countries.

In 100 years from now, people speaking one of Russian, Arabic or Chinese will be discussing the fall of Western civilisation.

In 100y from now the Western Civilization will be so advanced... they won't need languages to communicate
By 2120 we will know how to increase Intelligence. After that nothing matters because Intelligence is the ultimate weapon.

100% this, the less educated tend to have many kids and leave the upbringing to fate / government handouts.

Those who take personal responsibility for actually raising every child they have (i.e. "educated" people) will naturally moderate themselves as time and money is certainly not infinite.

Really don't think fertility makes a difference in the big picture.

Well think of the reasoning behind the questions on the test/s. It all assumes a certain kind of background knowledge that supposedly is necessary to do a certain kind of technical job and only the more advanced one's test for more than one kind of intelligence..... most IQ tests are generally still primitive.

In the past, the only "job" women had was to have babies and be a wife. She has other options now - so there is no need for her hormones/fertility to remain as high. Many women don't even want children or to get married. This is evolution.

Is it such a terrible thing if the population size contracts or stagnates, especially if it's without intervention?

The more people there are, the more difficult and costly it becomes to have more children while maintaining past standards of living.

I'm not convinced that it's some population death spiral (yet), more a case of self-correction. If the population decreases sufficiently and costs come down, we might see the average couple having 3+ children again.
