Thank you for your reply....it took me 11 hours on 20 Amp...is that normal ?
Damn, I thought I was meant to let it run till the alarm goes !!...how far down am I supposed to use the batteries ?

Also please tell me would you know if the Ellie's inverter takes just as long to charge, and does it make as loud a noise as the mecer ?

Thanks for your help

Not less than 50% (Gel can go lower)

Charging:
MTFC (10% Efficiency Loss) = ((BC / CRC) * 11) / 10
MTFC (20% Efficiency Loss) = ((BC / CRC) * 12)/10
MTFC (30% Efficiency Loss) = ((BC / CRC) * 13)/10
MTFC (40% Efficiency Loss) = ((BC / CRC) * 14)/10
MTFC (No Efficiency Loss) = ((BC / CRC) * 10)/10

Where,
MTFC - Maximum Time To Full Charge
BC - Battery Capacity
CRC - Charge Rate Current

11 hours sounds about right..

See computek response.. no more that 50% drain.

haha the Mecer is freaking loud :) I keep mine off most of the time. As for the Ellie's one, would love to know too.

Thank u Computek and Dan C...Do you think I would have done any damage by running it low the one time...The Vac is showing 233, where before it was hovering around 237...does that mean anything ?

When u say 50%, does that mean the 75% bar must just have gone and the 50% bar showing, or the 50% bar can just be gone, and the 25% showing ?

The Ellies Inverter's fan is only on when charging or running from battery power. Once charging is done, the fan goes off and it makes a soft noise, but since mine is in a server cabinet I dont really hear it.

So the fan is on when charging and when on battery ?

Correct. For the ellies inverter:
When charging = fan on
When on battery power = fan on
When not charging and on electricity power = fan off

Works great as a long running ups in my server cabinet.

The new model of the mecer inverter does the same, the fan switches off when on electricity power and not charging...but still very very noisy when charging...it is a little quieter when charging with 10A instead of 20...that's why I was keen to know if the Ellie's one is as loud and does it take as long the mecer to charge ?

Those bars on the inverter are very vague.. it will drop 25% instantly. So if you have one bar left, it probably means 50% drained :)

I installed a battery monitor, but still trying to figure out exactly how things work :p (dunno how I managed to pass matric)

Get one of these : http://www.nationalluna.com/dualmon.htm

Do u think I would have done any damage, my the Vac is showing 230...where yesterday before its first use it was showing 237 ?

Don't worry about the voltage it's pushing in or out.. it will vary. Read somewhere that some folks got 280v :wtf:
237v out is fine.

Yeah the ellies is very noisy when charging or on battery power. It sounds like a rackmount server fan.
For me, it doesn't take that long to charge.

Load usually on 1 out of 4 bars, sometimes 2 out of 4 when turning on 224w LCD TV, using the 1200w/2000va version with 2 102ah ellies batteries that came with it.

After a 2 hour loadshedding, my battery level bars are at 3 out of 4.
Recharging on 20a takes about 2h30m if it was on 2 out of 4 load.
Recharging on 10a takes about 3h if it was on 1 out of 4 load.

I haven't had the TV on during load shedding after switching the charger over to 10a.

While it is noisy when on loadshedding or charging, the sound is dampened by having it in a server rack at home :)

Thank you for that info Tinuva :)

What concerns me is, I thought there was a protection to guard against making the battery go to low...My inverter is left on permanently, and switches over when there is a power failure...what if I am out when there is a power failure, so I am not watching the battery, it will run itself flat if the electricity does not come on in time ?

Yeah that would be a problem, these inverters aint that smart.

I simply press the power button when loadshedding is complete, thereby putting my Mecer in bypass mode ie. my equipment is still powered from the mains flowing through the inverter but if mains fails the inverter does not go onto battery backup. It still charges the battery while mains is present until battery is full tho,
Once I know to expect loadshedding, I just push the power button again putting the unit into automatic battery backup mode when mains fails. This prevents unnecessary battery usage, hopefully extending the useful life of the battery.
As for the fan noise, it's only loud while charging, stops and goes completely silent when battery is fully charged and quiet enough not to bother me during battery operation.

Now why would you leave the house with that many electrical stuff running ... enough to drain the batteries. :whistling:
When Im not home during loadshedding, the couple of things that's on or just on standby hardly makes a dent in the battery usage.

Ask flashza when his domestic worker plugged a vacuum cleaner into it :p

When it goes up in smoke....it cost double to fix.
Try a better range.... 1000w that can run 13 computers with ease.....we have them

Anyone have any experience with Mecer Bbone inverter, and how it compares to the IVR inverter ?

When it goes up in smoke after serving you for some time when warranty is up , you can afford to buy another one and youll most likely still have spent less than the overkill, price-inflated ones you sell.
Now stop trolling!
