OPPO has a plan to become South Africa's biggest smartphone brand

OPPO is working hard to establish a prominent, permanent presence in the South African smartphone market.

This is according to Head of Go-to-market and Operations at OPPO South Africa Liam Faurie, who recently spoke to MyBroadband following the launch of the company’s Reno5 5G smartphone in the country.

Faurie’s previous roles included a term of seven years at Samsung South Africa, where he served as Product Manager for Premium Smartphones and Senior Product Manager. More recently, he headed Product and Marketing at Hisense South Africa.

Yeah they would need to start with rethinking their stupidly high prices.

If they bring their pricing more inline with what I can import their products for, then they have a shot.. If not then they're just pissing against the wind really.

Yep, if you can't compete with Xiaomi on price, informed customers are not interested.

Unless you are just going to spend marketing money to catch the uninformed ones, have them learn their lesson and then crash and burn your local operation in about 2 years

I have a Oppo A53 here in UK that's used for my SA sim. Cost me £130 so about R2700 or so. It's actually a decent phone, even has 90Hz screen, NFC, and a good old earphone jack unlike the top of the range phones.
