Hi All,

We recently launched our FTTH offerings on the Frogfoot FTTH Network. Stand (Beach Road), as well as Tokai is available for pre-order currently, and scheduled to go live early next year. Our offering is limited to users located in the Cape Town regions only for now, as we only have a POP in Cape Town and cannot currently offer optimal routing to Johannesburg or Durban based clients.

Our integration with OpenServe is pretty much finalised (although we would like to do some additional testing), and Vumatel (and other networks) should launch early next year. We do have some more work to do on OpenServe, but have silently in the background been testing it with a few consumers, very successfully.

Opticnetworks is a small Internet Service Provider whom is in today’s market, is extremely focused on providing niche Internet Services to a fixed, limited amount of subscribers. We have a limited client base, which we restrict to about 500 clients at any given time in order to ensure that we are able to provide high quality service, and build personalised one-on-one relationships with all our clients. There is no call centres, where you have to sit and wait up to hours to talk to someone, only to be told they will get back to you. There is no applying for your fiber line and being “forgotten” only to find out months later that your order was not even placed. We provide a dedicated resource, dedicated to your account and your well-being on our network as a client. With Opticnetworks, you pick up the phone and contact your designated, single point of contact, day or night. See it as your own, private account manager.

All our Internet packages are completely uncapped, unshaped, and with no Fair Usage Policies (FUP) or lengthy contracts. You can simply sign up online through the Frogfoot Fiber portal, or alternatively complete and return the application form (web site is not ready yet to take online orders). If at any time you are unsatisfied with the service, you can cancel the service immediately, no questions asked. We cater for pro-rata billing and you do not pay a cent until you are completely up and running.

All installations (for new lines), or activations (for existing lines), are free of charge. We supply (and install on your behalf if required) Mikrotik hEX & Mikrotik cAP Lite devices for customers when ordering new lines, whilst customers with existing lines moving their services to us, will be required to continue using their existing routers. Whilst the routers are “semi-managed” to assist clients not comfortable or knowledgeable enough with Mikrotik devices, the devices are yours and you own them. We thus have no problems with giving access to the devices if required by our clients.

Customers are further supplied with static IPv4 addresses, as well as a /48 of IPv6 address space (roughly 40% of our traffic is in fact, IPv6).

10/10Mbps, R599pm
20/20Mbps, R699pm
50/50Mbps, R899pm
100/100Mbps, R1299pm

I've been one of the few lucky individuals testing their services and it has been a pleasure.

Alright since some of you guys want to know more: Using them on Openserve in JHB, they only have a POP in CPT so all your traffic has to route there first, then to your destination which will cause an additional 15-20ms of latency if you are in JHB.

That out of the way, Chris has something solid going - latencies are more consistent than Vox, Crystal Kek, and Afrihost by far. Downloads are excellent too and comparable to Vox Fatpipe. If there is anything specific you want tested, just mention me here with a request.

Do you offer services to businesses?

We don't differentiate between business and home use. Both are treated equality on our network. That being said, most FTTH offerings, limit the service to the H, and therefore isn't available to the B.

We do however offer point-to-point dedicated Fiber (and Microwave), but it is quite a bit more expensive (starting from about R4k upwards).

Correct. Hence, routing from regions out of CPT will not be optimal, and we would prefer (prefer, not require) our client base to therefore be based in Cape Town. It also makes life easier dealing with CPT clients only in terms of location. As mentioned in my initial post, we don't just courier hardware to our clients, we actually go out and install it (if required). We physically get in your roof, and install the hAP to your ceiling and the associated cabling etc. Again, not a requirement, but it does go towards the personal, one on one relationships that we will be building with all our clients.

If you have problems we can't resolve remotely for what ever reason, we get in our car and we come to you.

Wow, thanks :D Both you and D tj. Means a lot guys and appreciate the positive feedback.

PS: Whilst it's a bit late in the evening for me now, please feel free to PM. I would be more than willing to toss out a few more test accounts on the IPC / OpenServe side (DSL and FTTH). Naturally we can't do much on the other FTTH networks in terms of trails, as the lines would need to be moved to us in order to provide service.

Well, if you'd be willing to supply to our business, and I think we're in the right area, I'd be very interested in further details. Let me know via PM what more info you'd need.

I see you're still advertising OpticNetworks but how can anyone trust you when your entire other site (nextgennews) goes offline without any explanation or feedback for your clients? If I'm wrong about the connection between the two companies then please correct me.

I was about to ask for more information regarding Vumatel connections... But now I'm reconsidering. Its one thing to harp on bigger ISP's because of their ****ty networks/routing, but they don't disappear overnight...

Hi All, OpticNetworks has a very appealing offer, although there is not a lot of review or history of comments about them on the internet.
this thread started out like a great sales pitch and then did a complete 180.
Does anyone have any comments about the ISP? their reliability and how good a service they provide?
thank you all
