Oh and another thing DigitalSoldier, talking about Baby where's Ignacio? Another member who had a different viewpoint to many of the things debated here.
Actually Ignacio received a day ban as a result of a challenge directed at the mods. He obviously decided not to return after the ban.

No, it is extremely relevant. The name was changed from Jan Smuts to Johannesburg International, and the reason for the change was given by the government to be: Airports and the like should not bear the names of politicians, but rather the name of its geographical locality. Clearly we as a South African population were lied to.

And concerning that I think the Minister's response on the Sunday Times was thorough, would like to see you debate with him. :)

Yea right. Simultaneous posts but angelo wants an apology. What is wrong with this picture? Let's all read the sundaytimes article for a real rendition of Farce Nation

Looks like he's either still banned or the mods forgot to unban him.

Mods??

And there you have you answer angelo - direct from the horse's mouth - don't ask for debate when - before it's even started it's labeled as "devoid". I advise you to read up on the working of democracy. Sickening. :(
Surely you can't deny Leon and the DA discredited themselves as a credible oppostion?

That's the official version. The ban still stands, look at his profile! He's been silenced!

Debate is not about giving ultimatum-like questions and demanding an answer, first of all if anything you should be asking what's wrong with JIA because the airport is not being changed from Jan Smuts at the moment. And concerning that I think the Minister's response on the Sunday Times was thorough, would like to see you debate with him. :)

I can't help but notice that you have yet to answer the question. Others have explained why its a valid question.

Like I said, you just duck and dive...

Preshane also thinks it's invalid, and i won't change that view just because the majority disagree with me and agree with you.

In that case, surely you can't deny that the ANC have descredited themselves as a credible government? :D

But both exist by the will of the voters. The DA is the official opposition, since it gets the second most votes.

No angelo - you just don't get it do you? Tony Leon is the elected rep - until such time as that changes - everything he says is as relevant as anything else. :(

What is the harm in answering?

Who's got the energy to answer every arbitrary question that gets thrown around.

Ok then let me explain why it is relevant. The airport was renamed to JIA from Jan Smuts because the government said airports should not have political names. Now they want to go back to a political name for whatever reasons, why not Jan Smuts? What is wrong with the name Jan Smuts? So if we are going to give the aiport at political name why is Oliver Tambo better than Jan Smuts?

There it is. Perfectly relevant to this discussion.

My personal opinion on the matter is that its a waste of time and money to be changing the name again, irrelevant of what they are changing it to.

Edit: Are you sure you are not a government member? Because you manage to say alot without actually answering any questions or contributing in a meaningful way.

Id like to reitereate something that seems to be overlooked by some. I mentioned it it in earlier posts and its been mentioned by Kingmonty again:

The name was changed from Jan Smuts to Johannesburg International, and the reason for the change was given by the government to be: Airports and the like should not bear the names of politicians, but rather the name of its geographical locality. Clearly we as a South African population were lied to.

So not only is it now ok to name airports and the like after politicians/struggle personalities (ANC/Left wing only i might add), not only has the government backtracked, not only has the government lied about this, not only are the minority being marginalised but our high profile International aiport has to endure a 2nd name change in the space of a few years! Can anyone say that this looks good to the outside world? It shows that we cant make up our mind, we spend money and worry about the wrong things and makes us look like a true third world country.

If the ANC wants a third world country then could they kindly let me know so I can make alternative living arrangements. I thought they wanted to compete on the international stage and was more than willing to forgive them a few teething problems but the state of this nation is now terminal.

Over and above the fact that Jan Smuts was a gentleman, well respected across the globe.

Need I mention the Fagan Commission?

The point is very clear.
I oppose the naming of the Airport to Oliver Tambo for the same reason the Airport was renamed to JIA in the first place.

If someone here can give me 10 reasons why Jan Smuts should not be remembered in this country then I may change my mind.
