Hi all,

I currently have Mint on an old Aspire One. Works better that the new Ubuntu. What would you guys suggest as the easiest to install with the best response? I am not the user so it needs to be stable and easy to use. Used for Web Surfing, Skype and OpenOffice

Then just keep Mint. Look at Ubuntu LXDE or XFCE edition.

If it was mine it would be Arch+Openbox+tint2.

The SSD version of the Aspire One had Linpus Linux on it as standard. My wife's Aspire One Happy came pre-installed with Windows 7 and Android 1.6 .

A new version on Linpus just released(v1.7) - trying it on a desktop pc now, seems good. I can't try on netbook - screen broke :-(

The original Acer Aspire One is extremely compatible with a wide range of distributions, even things like Solaris. One issue for picking a distribution is the limited screen real estate. After trying a few distributions on one of these my personal preference was for Mint, it seemed to work together with the display better than the others - although obviously the end user may have different tastes.

If this is the SSD version then another factor comes in, namely the drive is very slow and the RAM size is limited to 512 MB. The RAM can be upgraded at considerable effort, but this is not really worth it (never again). In this case the easiest way to handle this hardware configuration is to install the LXDE edition of Ubuntu or Mint.

Keep mint on it :)
Unless it's slow, then get something like XFCE.
