Karpowership headache in South Africa

The controversial Karpowership deal took a hit in early June 2024, with South Africa's energy regulator settling to pay the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse's (Outa) costs minutes before the Pretoria High Court was set to hear Outa's application.

Outa had applied to the High Court to force the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) to supply the full, unredacted record of its decision to award Karpowership three generation licences.
 
Outa is very to just jump on things like a sandton woman in her Mini complaining that you rev'd your BMW 135 too loud in the same parking lot.
 
We need all the power we can get, Eskom is fraught to the death with corruption, we know this. But they insist on focusing on Karpowership which is providing proven power solutions to other countries.

When load-shedding comes back, and it will, are Outa going to provide the extra MW that the Karpoweships can provide for South Africans? No.

My point was these ships look awesome, their business model is great and i think they can add value to us.

They “beat” actual bricks and mortar power stations in the tender that we would have owned, and which would have been longer term solutions.

LOLs, it's a drop in a bucket at an immense cost. Would only have set us back for decades even after load shedding is stopped.

They aren't awesome, they won't make much of a dent if we need to go back into any sort of load shedding beyond Stage 1.
Their business model is awesome for them, they will bleed this country dry for 20 or so years, and then pack up their shyte and leave and we'll be fscked.

They add zero value to us, and were just an avenue for Fat Fsck Gwede to pad his retirement fund.
