Hi Guys

Well, my last project on rigging up my home network went smoothly ... so its off to a new challenge...

I want to install a weather-proof speaker outside where I usually braai. Hook it up to my PC and listen to tunes while we braai and have a few dops.

What I like is being able to select music on the fly and have it played outside.

PC and speaker will be separted by one wall.
!
PC ! speaker
!

Anyone got similar setup ?

cheers ,

sdd (fantasising about a cold beer and biltong this weekend)

As a matter of fact I do . . . however mine is done by using an Apple Airport Express and is either plugged into some powered speakers, my stereo, or my boom-box. It gets its music streamed to it from iTunes.

Its only 54mbs so you might want to look for something similar to your network speed if you're looking for a full-on router as well. I've got a couple littered around my house for our network.

You didnt specify wireless so you could always get some cheap powered speakers and run a stereo extension cable into your braai area for a nice cheap solution.

Nooit.

I'm running cables from the computer room to the lounge's HI-FI system.
The hi-fi amp has a switch for 2nd set of speakers which I then turn on to enable the outside speakers.
The outside speakers are wired to the amp to the amp's "outside speakers" connectors.
I run a wifi network and controll my computer from my IPaq on the wireless network.

The Wi-Fi capable IPaq cost R1900.
The Amp was R1300.
The outside Speakers are from an old hi-fi from like 17 years ago.
The wiring was about R4.50 a metre.

On the IPaq I run software [I cannot quite remember what it's called now] that allows me to control just about any program on my PC from the IPaq.

It works beautifully !

@Bwana : Yups ... hexept that I preferred the screen and speed of the IPaq.
Never mind the ability to write my own controlling software, or the touch-screen.

Choices Choices ...

Well .. in that case you've simply got to use it.
The problem with the PSP is the software.
I'll PM you the details of the software I use tomorrow ... I'm pretty sure it's PSP'able.

If only I can convince the wife that my son needs something like this ... :)

damn...
Start off by trailing the thickest ugliest coloured cable through out the house. Then grab the hammer drill and mark where you think the holes should go. Usually by this stage my missus is begging me to go wireless. :)
