Can no longer use outlook 2007 after the fall creators update, get "not implemented" error when trying to compose a mail or send/receive mail.

removed .srs file, tried running a repair from control panel programs & features but that fails. Trying to help an old lady via teamviewer here.

Any ideas?

I will copy 2 emails I sent to a few of my clients PRIOR to this end of support...

See next two posts. This information was gained from MS's website and /or support forums at the time.

I trust you are well. Please see the information as quoted from Microsoft’s announcement. The short version: Microsoft are no longer supporting Office 2007.

Home and Business:
My suggestion if I may – I will quote on NEW full retail packs of Office 2016 Home and Business (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, One Note). While Microsoft’s pricing does not fluctuate on a weekly basis, unfortunately the R/$ rate regularly does. This means that the supplier pricing can change. The best I can do is to hold pricing for NEW retail packs for 7 days, subject to the R/$ rate. You can then procure payment for the NEW retail packs. After we have solved the Office 2016 HB installations we can look at the 2 Professional Office installations.

Photo Editor:
The truth is that it is no longer bundled with any Office version. However Microsoft has informed me that it can be installed manually or another program MS has made freely available for download. So we can install this for everyone if required.

Office 2016 Professional:
This will only be required if you wish to have Access on 1 or more PC. This will have to be what is called a digital purchase. I will pay the supplier who will then request the key(s) from Microsoft. Once Microsoft has issued the key to me I will then forward the key(s). This is a NON- refundable product from the suppliers as Microsoft only issues the keys on request and payment. We can sort this out once we have done the Home and business installations.
The deciding factor for you might be if you require ACCESS, if not then Office home and business will suffice for all. ACCESS unfortunately only comes with the Pro version of Office. This is unfortunately only available as a new product.

Office 2007: (Please note the below is copied/quoted from Microsoft)
On October 10, 2017, Office 2007 will reach End of Life. If you haven't already begun to upgrade your Office 2007 environment, we recommend you start now.
We also recommend customers use the deployment benefits provided by Microsoft and Microsoft Certified Partners.
What does End of Life mean?
Office 2007, like almost all Microsoft products, has a support lifecycle during which we provide new features, bug fixes, security fixes, and so on. This lifecycle typically lasts for 10 years from the date of the product’s initial release, and the end of this lifecycle is known as the product’s End of Life. When Office 2007 reaches its End of Life on October 10, 2017, Microsoft will no longer provide:
• Technical support for issues
• Bug fixes for issues that are discovered
• Security fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered
Because of the changes listed above, we strongly recommend that you upgrade as soon as possible.

I hope I did not confuse you with all that info. If you have questions or want more info please feel free to call or email me. I will be sending you a second email where MS lists some of the recently expired to soon expiring product support.

This is probably the part that is affecting you at the moment:

As of Oct 31, 2017, RPC over HTTP will no longer be a supported protocol for accessing mail data from Exchange Online. Microsoft will no longer provide support or updates for Outlook clients that connect through RPC over HTTP, and the quality of the mail experience will decrease over time.

RPC over HTTP is being replaced by MAPI over HTTP, a modern protocol that was launched in May 2014. This change affects you if you're running Outlook 2007 because Outlook 2007 won't work with MAPI over HTTP. To avoid being in an unsupported state, Outlook 2007 customers have to update to a newer version of Outlook or use Outlook on the web.

This change may also affect you if you're running Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, or Outlook 2010 because you must regularly check that the latest cumulative update for the version of Office that you have is installed.

It is breaking rules. There are two different things:
1. Supporting old Office or not. /traditional approach/
2. Changing communication protocol on their servers and removing old protocols, so all old application will be cut off from their servers. /new age/

It is the same what they did with Skype earlier this year. They got away with it as Skype is free, so now they do the same with expensive packages.

I merely posted my findings.

I never said I agree with any of it.

But yes, I don't agree with their tactics.

Also they seem to just change the number of years they support a product from 13 to 10 years.

And we're forced to accept that.

I'm thinking of learning to know linux a bit better...

You won't be happy if you are a fan of Outlook. I took this approach 2 months back and have reverted to Windows with Office. There isn't a good alternative to Outlook yet, for me.

Also, With Office 365 being so "cheap", there is no reason to use the dated Office 2007. Time to leave Win XP and Office 2010 (and older) in the past. :p

1. Office 365 is not cheap and forces you for constant updates. Not everyone is happy of it.

2. There are plenty reasons to continue to use applications you duly paid for. Whether you upgrade or not, it should be your own decision, not being forced by the monsters @Redmond.

3. Comment on XP/etc., is completely inappropriate.

You are entitled to your opinion, just as I am on mine. For me, paying R100+- per month for having the latest and greatest, isn't the worst thing around.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Whether R100p/m is cheap is debatable, but one of your comments was completely inappropriate and it counts on your entire image.

Please explain how it was inappropriate? Maybe I am not understanding what you are trying to say...

Also, there are alternatives to MS Office, which is free and works pretty decently, if I say so myself.

Im considering learning linux going forward. Oooooone day when its great I can move.

I have office 2016. My research was for clients, and personally I don't see office 365 as cheap. While I realise that many, perhaps most programs could become renewable licenses, I will avoid them where possible.

Didn't I say clearly in my other post? (post #20753068 10:28 AM 22-11-2017).

Don't panic.

I've decided I'm not entertaining such clowns this week as I had my fill of that on Monday. Hench the last part of its post was just overlooked ;)
