Outrage over 2-hour Gauteng IT tender

The Gauteng government has been accused of rushing through a large IT tender without following the proper process, according to a report by the City Press.

R30 million was allocated by the provincial government for a tender for e-government services, which was concluded in 24 hours. In2IT Technologies won the contract.

Judging by their Glassdoor reviews, they employ mostly foreigners, I'm guessing mostly from India...

"In2IT Technologies responded within the period of two business hours with a quotation of more than 100 pages for the amount of R22,482,500, and was awarded the contract. "

Seriously...

To clarify the click-bait headline: The contract was for 12 months, not 2 hours. They were given 2 hours to respond to the tender. The amount is closer to R20m (R22.5m) not R30m.

We laugh whenever a sales person excitedly comes to us saying we have been included in a Government tender. 9 times out of 10 the spec we are requires to meet looks exactly like an existing providers spec sheet down to the most minute details and feature, and we are told we have to match it 100% to be considered for the tender. The only people who are ever able to match it 100% are the people who put the spec sheet together ... the preferred bidder.

For sure. To produce an accurate quote for a RS that is 100 pages long in two hours is not impossible but extremely close to impossible without having had a detailed :sneak peek" of the requirement specifications before hand...

If ever I advocated for a contractor to not be paid by government, this is it.
