I doubt such stats exists, it would smell funny to just have stats for townships, it will most probably be stats per Eskom regions which could include both township and other settlements within that region, from that data you could probably find the township stats with some more digging or unless Eskom decide to filter it down to a particular area.

True - not likely to be broken down to that level of detail.

Eskom should get the tampering stats guy to do their billing forecast for them, remember how they asked people to use less then was surprised that they lost revenue due to people using less?

On a Seperate note, I was recently approached, while doing some gardening outside, by a young gentleman offering to fix the water meter such that I pay far less.

I asked him how this would work, out of curiosity. He replied that they would dig under the meter and connect the feed directly to the house without tampering with the meter. This way the meter will register far less than the actual usage.

Ofcourse I declined the offer, but I'm certain that many many meters have had this bypass done.

This is why a smart metering solution is desperately needed.

The time of thing meters that are networked, show their status, can be configured remotely and which can be interrogated without a physical audit.

The technology is available, but not deployed yet.

Maybe the only way forward is to make it FREE for everyone, as this useless ANC government is unable recoup or disconnect illegal connection. Put the VAT to 25% and make electricity free for all. But please get rid of the useless people at ESKOM first as it does not help it is free but never working!
