Over 50% of cigarettes sold in SA are illegal, claims BAT

British American Tobacco Plc said illegal cigarettes make up more than half the South African market after a lengthy ban on the sale of tobacco products forced smokers to look elsewhere.

The illicit industry is maintaining its majority grip on the sector more than a year after the five-month prohibition was lifted, the company’s regional unit said in a presentation to South African lawmakers on Tuesday.

Contraband sales will deprive the government of R19.1 billion ($1.3 billion) in unpaid duties in the current fiscal year, it said.

Well everyone had to resort to those illegals for a good 6 months last year, after the bans were lifted, those illegals became 1/2 to a 1/3rd of the price. So lets see what is gonna happen?

Yes, but NDZ and the RETard faction will get their cut from the contraband sales, so it is a win in the end.

This is what happens when you continously apply pressure on the neck of the golden goose. It dies or smokes illegal cigarettes.,

So seek compensation from the government. Haven't the courts already determined what the ban was unconstitutional and unnecessary?

Botswana and India are the only other countries to have banned tobacco sales as part of their COVID-19 response. The sales bans in Botswana and India were lifted after 12 weeks7 and 6 weeks,8 respectively. In South Africa, the sales ban lasted 5 months.

Something like that...

It was all about Herr Doekiness's absolute hatred of cigarettes and her belief that she knows better and must control the lives of all 60m people in this country.
