Over a third of senior government employees in South Africa are not qualified

Around 35% of senior managers in government do not have the necessary qualifications or credentials for their position.

This was revealed by the Minister of Public Service and Administration Senzo Mchunu in a written response to a parliamentary question posed by the Democratic Alliance.

Senior managers in South African government require at least an NQF Level 7 qualification, which is equal to a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma.

I have no problem if they have the degree or not. A lot of people with degrees spend all day polishing them and is honestly as stupid as a rock. So the paper doesnt really make any difference. Maybe rather than a witch hunt, the real question is, how many of those that has it, can actually do their job properly?

It reminds me of the movie with Tom Hanks called "Larry Crowne" He was top employee in his company for an entire year, but because he didnt have a college degree they had to fire him (because they couldnt promote him to a senior role). Yet top employee really?

A lot of the founders that ran mega companies dont have degrees. But yet they build billion dollar companies (Because they actually could do their jobs without the silly piece of paper.)

So in all honestly. If they can do the job, and they do it well, then take this requirements and shove it in the bin. However if they have a degree or not, and they aint performing then well you can go after them for poor performance.

And honestly, DA do you not have anything better to do than point fingers at people? Its not like your cadres are actually doing much better. When you are having problems to deal with, all your colleague degree workers just get the non-colleague degree workers to do it anyway, while they point their fingers at someone else.

You dont need a PhD to figure that out. I honestly am getting so tired of the drivel from the DA.

So I rate the ANC 1/10
The DA is 2/10

Both are really terrible scores. But at least the ANC is trying. What are you doing other than spend millions on analysts that dont actually tell us any real facts. Other than. We have a degree and they dont. Well tell it to my long list of people. They will just laugh at you.

I like all the Koo bottle tops on this one....
I wonder how many lives she saved to get that.

I'd tell her to write an autobiography but since spelling is now an elitist white male thing I guess we'll just have to settle for some rock paintings on the Koedoe building in PTA.

You know you can laugh at these policemen, but many of them risk their lives to protect us. I am sure there are some bad ones, but not all are bad. And many work long hours so that some of us can sleep peacefully at night.

The bad ones are their bosses thats got PhD and doesnt know how to do their jobs. But hey, they got a PhD so surely they must know how. It's all about competence, and not fancy paperwork.

So then one has to ask how so many appointments took place and are they not likely fraudulent. It's very demotivating for qualified people in the same jobs, or even those applying for the jobs who then do not get appointed. It's quite true that a qualification dopes not guarantee a successful or competent employee, but it is supposed to be one check-gate they go through in terms of dedication to study and achieve a qualification. The reason for importance is that despite on paper there being Balanced Scorecard appraisals etc, it all comes down to the criteria of what is used to set the goals. I vigorously opposed having a criteria once of integrity with a score of 1 to 5 - how can you be 3,5 out of 5 integrity? You either have integrity or not, and what exactly then is the metric. Too much paper exercise without meaningful metrics that count for any difference. The very sad fact is we have a pretty big civil service (per capita) and that should have meant outstanding service to citizens, but we in fact see the opposite at a lot of cost. If we don't address the root issues, it's going to just keep getting worse over time.

Sure, if one's cup is half fool.

Anecdotally I've yet to experience a single story in decades from either friends or family who benefitted from some form of police action... Stories of corruption, intimidation, uselessness and pure criminality regarding the police though, those I have plenty of.

Yes. Let's use exceptions to prove the rule shall we?

Also, the type of people who go into civil servant positions are not the same type who opt to make their own success.

Are the DA genuinely concerned or are they just jealous that the ANC does the unqualified cadre deployment better than them?

DA points out a serious issue caused by the ANC, adds some numbers in order to quantify it...
Gets attacked by people while they defend the ANC.

This is why we can't have nice things.
May I suggest voting FF+ next time?
