I would rather purchase SpaceTV decoder, better value for money even though you will have to cough up R100 extra and what I like about this decoder is
Future Pay TV NDS ready
which can probably work on TopTV/StarTimes at a later stage. They use the same encryption if not mistaken.

Both decoders are future Pay TV ready. Space TV has TVlink capabilities and future PVR capabilities, that sets it apart.

Neither OVHD or Top TV will allow services from the one to be shown on the other's STB's... Ever...

Maybe things will be possible in the foreseeable future with the new shareholders on board if the transaction is successful. Urgent court interdict happening Tuesday but the brand is dying they lost me for good.

ODM which wanted to launch StarSat today, is now hopeful to launch StarSat as soon as possible, ending the TopTV brand which suffered huge reputational damage since its commercial launch just over three years ago.

There is a possibility that OVHD will allow Pay TV services to use their platform, however Top TV/StarTimes will never use the OVHD platform. Also, Top TV will never allow OVHD on their platform. They don't even allow GlobeCast FTA on their boxes.

do you know if one can pick up other FTA channels on SES 5 using the Ellies receiver?

@Quantum Theory, did mention that you can receive free-to-air channels such as bV not sure which others are available, he is using the SpaceTV unit.

Here is a list on free-to-air channels available http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/South-Africa.html Look under Satellite - SES 5, maybe Quantum can share more knowledge with us :)

Very old thread, but quick question.

My parents have the SpaceTV version but it seems that the recent firmware has voided any FTA channels and only display the remaining channels on SES-5.

Seeing that OpenViewHD moves to IS20 completely so think that the only option would separate dish & decoders for each ?
ie one OpenViewHD to IS20 and then FTA to SES-5 ?
