"Own number sending" disabled - can't change it?

I have a Cell C voice contract (Straight-up 30) which I run on an old Blackberry Bold 9000 (only use the voice features - BIS is not activated).

However, some time ago it started blocking my number when I phone people (They always see "Blocked" or "Private" or "Unknown" number). I've check in the phone that Own Number Sending is either on or network dependent, but it seems like it is ignored completely.

It could have happened after I upgraded the contract to the Straight-up 30 (from an Allweek 100 contract).

Any suggestions?

Call the helpdesk on 140 and ask them to enable it.

Your CLI was not activated on the line,
If you paying for it, it suppose to be activated,

(CLI = Caller Line Identity)

CLIR Active!

Hello ebendl

I've had exactly the same problem with two other Cell C numbers, friends of mine, which I've helped fix.

What you need to do is go to the Cell C website, click My Cell C, then choose My Account. Register if you've not done so already, then once you're logged in, go to Advanced Services (under My Services heading). Look for the CLIR setting and make sure it's INACTIVE.

I'll bet my chocolate that this is the problem!

Let me know how it turns out.

Edit:
I can't understand why Cell C are doing this, so damn annoying!

I can confirm this, on 4 of our contracts since moving from the old contracts Casual Chat, Active Chat to the new Straight-Up's every one of the numbers had their CLI blocked for outbound calls on the network, in each case we had to call in to 140 and speak to an agent to have it enabled again.

Hi,

Send us the number in question so that we can check on our side.

Cool - thanks. I just checked on the site and it was active - hopefully this solves the problem!

It happens usually after upgrades.
Dial 140
Press 1 (English or other)
Press # (Main menu)
Press 3 (Settings, CLI, etc)
Press 2 to activate your CLI

Cannot understand why they disable it without notification. The mind boggles.
