Panorama/Sonnendal: How to get fibre when not on anyone's fibre coverage map?

MWEB are such knobs. Send me an email this morning saying fibre has come to Panorama. I click on link provided by email - their website then tells me there is no fibre available.

Let's just say my email to them wasn't positive...

Moving will probably be on the cards for me in a few years and when that happens, the TOP requirement will be, FTTH. Estate agents should add that to their search criteria!

But ,eh, confirmed with Telkom that there is really nothing even planned for Panorama for the next two years. Even when it hits planning stage, it still takes centuries to actually get any infrastructure installed. Tried to contact DFA, but they don't respond to messages from their site it seems. Or don't care unless you are a nice big business :(

it IS 2 years now @LadyAth any luck yet or have you moved down the road to Plattekloof or Kleinbosch ?

Openweb have put fibre into the ground both sides of Pedofile street (Gert van Rooyen), upto Genl Piet Cronje, but nothing South of that in the direction of Rothschild or Panorama Primary.

Several ISP's I have contacted (Afrihost, VOX, Axxess, Cybersmart Lightspeed have said there isn't fibre in the area - status is Planned on the Openserve map)

At least Garth from ISPafrika and Casey Edeling from Webafrica have said that "Openserve is in pre order in your area. It takes anything from 1-6 months to go active."

This is really frustrating. The contractors have packed up all their equipment and portapotties and disappeared and they only installed fibre in half the area that was demarcated. I am beginning to suspect that Vumatel will have fibre at my home before OpenServe/Telkom especially because we turned light purple on the Vumatel coverage map -- people spread the word, show your interest on the Vumatel website: https://vumatel.co.za/coverage

Our street WhatsApp group all registered on Vumatel. The website says they need another 398 interested homes. I myself have registered on multiple providers and every 3 months or so do it again. Spread the word on your street groups if you belong to one (if not you should) - If they all register with Vumatel we can get this going!

It's another year later (18 months since @LadyAth's OP) and still nothing.

This week, Orange and Blue fibre went into the ground along Rothschild, from the taxi rank across from Knead, down past Lotz of Joy and Georgio at the BP Garage upto the house with the windpump - from there the line turns South-Westwards to follow Panorama Road.

The guys have just loaded their Orange and Blue reels of fibre onto the truck and will hopefully move further down the road and not disappear for another few months.

Do you perhaps know if its openserve/dfa/neotel/vumatel?

I saw the trenching and the reels of cable, but haven't seen any work (mostly drive past there late evening) or trucks. I hope its not openserve.

Sorry - the fiber next to Rothschild is back haul for cellphone towers as far as I know - it is not FTTH.

But don't worry -- OpenServe Telkom will never deliver so give up on them. Go Vumatel. Make sure that you are registered on their website. A little birdie told me they are will trenching in our area beginning September. I have seen them operating in Kenridge and they don't have the two okes with a bakkie style that OpenServe employs - they come in with an army of trucks (I counted 16 the one day) and get the job done fast.

So my area was announced as planned for actual deployment by Telkom in September 2016. Telkom still hasn't got fibre in the ground. My friend in Kenridge was contacted by Vumatel end of September 2016 for a "Show-my-interest" and his fiber has been active for a couple months already...

And Vumatel has 200Mbps/1Gbps options. And I am really tired of Telkom not even having the decency to communicate to their customers and based on the terrible ADSL experience and my fiber order being pending for a year and will wave them goodbye gladly.

Go Vumatel www.vumatel.co.za.

Well Vumatel's quota seems to be going up - today it shows "26% of target reached" and "your suburb still requires 402 sign-ups to qualify" - in other words they require a total of 536 households to make the area viable but have only received interest from 134 to date !

please add your address at https://vumatel.co.za/show-interest if you haven't done so yet.

Saw the Vumatel teams active in Aurora, Durbanville last month and was impressed.

A few days later I received a Vumatel flyer in my mailbox saying "Welgelegen 1, 2 & 3 Vuma Fibre is Coming" - up to 1 Gigabit per second, Open Access - choose from a range of service providers. No long contracts - offering month to month services....

Vumatel is coming. They contacted me for details of my body corporate trustees because they got permission for COCT to start trenching in Welgelegen in September. I saw that their map got updated with Edgemead under construction...

The first guy on the Western side of Welgelegen 2 (in La Provence Ave near the corner with General JH Olivier - across the street from the Church)

is getting a residential fibre connection on the Openserve backbone laid last year, or at least the site inspection for this

- saw him yesterday after 17:00 inspecting the manhole on the pavement with a guy from Corline (Turnkey Fibre / FTTX)

yes Edgemead are definitely lucky to be on their new coverage map below as "Build in progress", with large parts of Bellville north of the N1 and Durbanville already on a "Fibre Ready" status.

I see our area includes Sonnendal, Panorama, Welgelegen 1 2 and 3, Monte Vista, Plattekloof Glen (which is where the fibre was brought under the N1 highway from the N1 City side last year), and even as far as Parow North and De Tijger - all these areas just being planned, with Vuma asking you to log your address under "Show My Interest"

No sign of fibre in Sonnendal. Even though the lines were improved (less SNR, etc), I am still capped at 4MB ADSL (and yes, I confirmed that). It sux.

Saw a Corline Turnkey bakkie doing site inspections for domestic fibre at two homes in Sering Street and Akasia Ave yesterday evening after 18:00 so there is hope for Sonnendal / Panorama after all

I got a Vuma flyer as well and clicked so fast on the 'show my interest' that my ADSL dropped connection in panic. It says they are 89 houses short! Rally the troops! Camp the neighbours! Must...have...fibre....

Any updates on our area, JohanD, LadyAth ?

September has nearly come and gone with no evidence of Vumatel starting trenching ?

I think we need to get enough sign-ups first before they will do any actual planning. Highly unlikely that we will see anything in 2017.
