Pastel Xpress v12.
Upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, after self-study(read googling) indicated Pastel should work OK.

Problem is Pervasive SQL.

From scratch Pastel gave the Code 20 error, indicating problem with Pervasive License.

I have re-installed version 9.6, as well as ver 10, several times in the months since then.
Each time, eventually, Pastel starts working again, but the next month, when I cook the books again, the Code 20 error would be back.

I have gone through this process 3 or 4 times now, including again today.

Eventually, using the guilcadm.exe tool thingy, I saw that the pervasive licenses are temporary licenses, expiring after a month.

I contacted Sage, where a very uncouth operator explained to me that my car was to old, and the engine needed upgrading and the problem was with windows, not with Pastel, but that Pastel will solve my problem @R2500 for an upgrade to ver 14 from the current V12.

I tried to explain that the problem was with the pervasive license and not my "car", but he could not hear me over spending his commission on my R2500 in his head.

Anyway. I do not understand why Pervasive have a problem with my upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10.

EVERYthing, Pastel-wise works perfectly, but somehow pervasive does not seem to license itself when I re-install it from the original Pastel CD/DVD.

All I get are 1 month temp licenses each time - and I am sure each time that it will be the last time I can get it working.......

Does any body have any idea how to return to the previous license situation with Pervasive?

There has to be a solution.

Alternatively I will have to do a Virtual windows 7 setup- I still have the original windows 7 disk backed up - but I am sure there has to be a more permanent solution to get it working properly on windows 10.

Perhaps try to uninstall the pervasive again, and reinstall it, run your Pastel as administrator and reregister you Pastel. I think the pervasive SQL gets registered during that process, perhaps that would solve the problem?

Pervasive needs to be installed as a service and not an application for Windows 10.

Thanx, Werfie, I am a little scared to un-install and re-install the WHOLE Pastel installation, but I have a feeling you might be correct, but then what $m@Rt@$$ says about it being a service and not an app is something I read somewhere, but did not follow up on.
Will.Do.That.
Thanx.

Well, what I meant was... dont uninstall Pastel, uninstall PVS and reinstall and then just run the Pastel registration wizard again. Help > Registration I think is where it is.

not sure with win 10 (not been faces with it yet....)
but with win8.1 there was a manual process where older .netframework files had to be manually installed to convince at least *some pastel versions to work correctly, and then pastel to be installed.
(windows did moan the files are not required, but there was an option to install in anyway....)

that was nearly 2 years ago.

*note: I said some, not all.

If you don't get it right. PM me and we can perhaps teamviewer.
Very experienced with pastel and it's issues. Ran it since preview with pastel 11, 12 and 14. Workgroup and Client\Server with Win10.
Seen it all..

Issue sounds very similiar, you have to ensure you delete the pervasive properly. Install the pervasive analyzer when uninstalling.
Then manually clear in the registry the registered pastel machines. You have to install as service with win10.

Seen the same issue on 2 machines which "upgraded from Windows 7 to 10.

In the end I had to reset Windows 10 and then re-install everything and the license became permanent.

Wow, thanx for the responses.
Currently I am sitting with:
1. Using Pervasive ver 10, which grants a temp license, I can get into Pastel, BUT, then trying to re-register everything, I get stuck at a point where Pastel complains that Pervasive is not the correct version that WAS registered, And I need to use the older version(9.6).

I then uninstall en remove Pervasive ver 10, AND then re-install version 9.6.
The installation process goes through completely, but then, using guildcam.exe I can see that the license for this version(9.6) has expired.
As such, I CANNNOT open Pastel to re-register the whole thing - It can only be done from inside Pastel -get code 20(Pervasive error)

Should I un-install the WHOLE of Pastel, and do everything from scratch? - I really really do not want to do that, if possible.
Should I go dig up and boot into my old windows 7 version, to try and see what the Pervasive license number was/is?- Will it be transferable using guildcam?

At this point the whole problems comes down to Pervasive license number.
Pervasive 9.6 works perfectly on windows 10(at least for my Xpress V12 of Pastel).
Xpress V12 also works 100% on windows 10.

I just need to find a way to get Pervasive to use/get/install/register the pervasive license that it was using on the windows 7 installation.
Will Sage/Pastel have a clue what that number was?

It's best to do complete removal of pastel and pervasive. Also using the Pervasive system analyzer. TIP install using the old pervasive 9 installer...
Then you can contact pastel and request the pervasive key, you'll have to have invoice number ready.
Else you can just extract the key on the windows 7 machine in the license manager for pervasive.

Cool, I'll start with that, this weekend, and see what I can get.

If not, then I'll contact Sage - still have all the original paperwork - but at that point the nerd in me might first try to convert the old win 7 installation into a VHD and run virtually on windows 10 - just for the challange.......

This should just be a warning, you should still be able to continue the registration on Pervasive 10 even with a Pervasive 9 Serial Number. Just try and see if it lets you go through with the registration.

When completed I still get this:
Capture2.jpg

Initially I did not know to use Pervasive for workgroups, which is why at some point I installed both server and client versions.

Uninstall and delete all traces of pervasive in the registry.

@ttygt,

This advice given a few times is very important. you have to take the time and remove all traces of previous versions of pervasive in Registry using regedit

Uninstalled.
Used RegEdit - deleted all "pervasive" & "psql" - dozens and dozens.
Delete all files/directories I could find.
Reboot.
Re-install original 9.6
Reboot.
Use guildcam - Liscense expired.

So, either pervasive saves its license info elsewhere in registry(I do not know what to search for?), or saves it somewhere on the drive under something else.

Eish.

Found some online Pervasive removal guides - did EVERYTHING(delete files/directories + RegEdit) again, got some extra files removed this time, but still no luck.

Instructions to Reset if you don't come right.

Thanx Hemps.

I'm thinking I HAVE to try and get the old windows 7 disk running, on this PC(after hours), to see what the original installation license info was.
There is no getting round this without disturbing all the other important pgms installed currently on windows 10.
