patching your keyboard..

This may be familiar to some: your keyboard has stoically absorbed yet another intemperate blow (for the slow readers: you smashed it again) and the damned spacebar just had to go and get stuck down - how the hell are you supposed to use THAT?! So you prise the offending key off and ...spang! - there goes the spring (and the spacebar is the only key with one, it's not like you can steal a spring from underneath some other lesser-used key (dammit again)) and, Sod's Law being what it is, you have NO chance of finding it - at least not until you walk into the room barefoot some days later and somehow step on it in such a way to get stabbed by the dratted thing.

So, for THOSE guys, here's a helping hand: go to the kitchen and filch one of the pot-scourer pads - a new one is best (as it's the springiest) ..you see where this is going?

Yes young padowan, some judicious trimming of springy new foam to fit under the spacebar is JUST what the doctor ordered: with some trimming and experimentation you should land up in short order with a spacebar that responds more than adequately, specially if it's your workbench one...

PS, trying to hack a suitably trimmed piece of cable-tie in under there is too damned fiddly to get right AND involves portable-manmade-lava (you may know it as hotglue); in short, too much hassle!

Hope this helps someone else in a bind sometime!

 ...bashing the keyboard from time to time IS how I manage it! That said, the old Dell units rule with this; hell, I suspect they would serve at home defence too!
