Is this really what google meant when they claim "you'll never need to delete another message"? Sounds like telkom spin to me

Not a fan of googles web albums either, and while the new .mac photo albums look really really cool, I still think flickr pro is the bang for the buck.

Does this mean the Gmail inbox size will stop at 2.8GB instead of slowly growing like it used to?

I'm already beyond my 50% mark on my Gmail account. But the paid option wont ever be an option for me. I'll just delete those 10MB emails that is sitting there, gathering dust. Go Google!

Yup, it was a bit of marketing spin.
I like Gmail but I also thought it was unlimited storage from the start. Yahoo Mail actually offers unlimited storage (from May). I've been using Yahoo Mail for years but one of the main reasons I like Gmail is the free POP3 service so you can pull the mails into Outlook. At Yahoo Mail you pay for that service.

Hey look. They're a company, they need to pay bills. Frankly 2.8gig is HUGE! If you happen to be one of those people that need more, then go ahead. Paying for more storage is next logical step whether it's spin or not.

I use the web interface and manage to totally ignore the adverts as though they aren't even there, so I guess GMail like most if not all forms of advertising, relies purely on huge numbers of people being served adverts, and only a small percentage of adverts will grab the voyeur's attention enough to actually click on, but it does make me wonder how many GMail users actually use the pop3 interface and never use the web interface...

Yeah I use the web interface too, hardly notice the ads but every now and then I notice once that's actually relevant and click on it. I think its also a way for Google to build a relationship with users, I probably wouldn't have signed up for a Google account if it wasn't for Gmail but now that I have I use it for a lot of their other services.

@globetrotter, Yahoo Uk does have free pop3 access and forwarding. I used their pop3 service before I got Gmail. Now I have all my Yahoo emails forwarded to my Gmail account where I download it via pop3 access at home. I still use the web interface to delete spam and unnecessary emails from my archive and also at work. @Bwana, what is the difference between pop3 and iMAP?

Doubt it will stop growing. I think we worry too much. The storage solutions are for folks who outgrow the capacity.

You are currently using 161 MB (5%) of your 2887 MB.

Guess I'm safe for a while. :D

I don't remember them ever offering unlimited storage, just compaered to what else was available at the time that it was announced it seemed unlimited.

I really can't ever see myself exceeding the 2.8 GB on Gmail, or the 2GB on Google apps any time soon.
