The IS newsserver works fine for me during the week. It just a bit slower during weekends, then I get a bout 10kb/s. But otherwise I get full speed.

How do you guys manage that, I almost never get above 10kb/s. I mostly get about 2-5kb/s.

Could I ask what news software you're using?

Looks like he's either on a Linux box with some linux program that can be accessed via a web interface. Or a dedicated linux box that can be accessed from a remote location via any OS using web interface to control the news server software.

That is running on my local gatway. And its downloading from the IS news server.

I dont really think there are advantages over other news readers. It's just easier for me to download to my gateway pc which is always on.
Ohh and I suppose if I wanted I could open up the pc to the internet then I could add stuff to download from a remote location.

They will still be fine

I don't think they will be without their news server, just think their prices are about the same as saix yet they incurr additional latency + the whole there is a sunspot/cloud/piece of sh*t on the sat dish problem ;) thats kinda the reason why i never use them.. the latency. Plus its not like they offer the xtra local/news access at the same time as intl. so unless u have 2 accounts theres no point or push factor to use them.

I dont think the majority of IS users are people who live off news, IS has been around a long time, and news binaries only really got noticed when people posted in this forum and irc, word of mouth etc...

no hope in hell if IS threw their news server out the window would they go out of business.

Sabnzbd is pretty cool, I use it as my client in windows, its kinda weird adding nzbs and checking status by using internet explorer. If I set it up right I can access it via my cellphone (Wap), just switch its port to 80 and setup a dyndns or similar system.

news.is.co.za is going at about 0.5k/s for me right now.

Let's see what will happen next.

At the moment I would be less surprised about pigs flying over a frozen hell than if IS news started working properly.
