Is it possible to take a 24 month contract - like R399 iPhone deal - and pay the the contract in full when signing up.

Obviously without penalties.

I want to buy the phone as a gift but don't want the constant R399 bleeding every month. Pay once - klaar.

Other options people?

Because for a lot of people the phone & airtime on a contract is a better deal. I recently looked at moving away from contracts (all are top-up) to pre-paid but on all of them, it would cost me way more.

Nothing stopping you from having a positive balance on your account. Penalties would only come into play if you wanted to cancel your contract. I don't think any service provider would object to you dumping R9576 into your account.

Also keep in mind that since your on contract for this duration, your still responsible for OOB and your contract will not auto-stop.

Friend of mine is on straight-up 99c contract. When he exceeded credit limit he was cut off and there were problems of transfering R1000 to the account. It wasn't solved for couple days and resolved by increasing credit limit. It was a month or two ago.

It shoudn't be the same problems when taking topup version of the same contract.

Thanks all.

The above deal includes R1200 airtime value - which means what ? R50 per month for 24 months - why cant they just state what it actually is.

As its a gift - I did not want to "manage" the account.

iStore has iphone5 @ R7k and then I will have to get something like Cellc R100/month prepaid to end up with a "deal" of around R9k. (basically contract deal pricing).

Come on CellC - wheres you input?

Hi,

Yes it is possible, cellc will on a monthly basis will use the amount in credit(the amount paid upfront) to pay your monthly subscription. It is also important to note that should the user go over and above monthly allocated benefits you will be liable for extra payment. And also on the 23rd month you need to contact us and instruct us to cancel the contract failure to do this your contract will continue on the month to month basis.Alternatively you should rather buy the handset cash and the user can then use prepaid vouchers.

We hope the above helps.
