Hi guys.. My gardener would like to send some $ home to Zim. Is there a legal way for me to assist him /pay him in $ instead of ZAR. He saved up R10K that he would like to exchange as well.

He can also take cash (Rands) to the bus depot in the city/town that you are located in, then use one of the much more informal instant-transfer services to pay out his deposit at a corresponding bus depot counter to his recipient awaiting it there, as this service may perhaps end up attracting lower fees.

Why does it have to be on USD? Seems an expensive way to make sure your money doesn't go far.

Western Union via Absa if you bank with Absa. Not sure about the charges but I believe you can specify the currency for the receiving country.

I... whut? What the actual....

The country's history and status has been news since forever and you're still unaware of the deep need for real currency there?

That's some next-level stone living right there.

Next you'll ask the same about Moz.....

Maybe buy some good quality sand with the money and truck it in?

Do they not have bank accounts in Zim?
