Morning Everyone

I have been contemplating getting a new monitor for a while now, but due to lockdown (last year) finances are a bit tighter for luxuries.

My monitor decided to completely die during December and I'm forced to buy a new one.

I've been looking at the Dell S2721DGF as an upgrade, but due to cost at the moment I am looking at the Dell S2421hn

My usage is for work (excel and word etc) not editing and I do play games on it, but not competitive.
Cyberpunk, RDR2 and FIFA mostly.

If anyone has some insight it would be much appreciated ? I've also never bought from Wootware before.

My current monitor was 12 years old Samsung 23 Syncmaster

edit: I’m running a GeForce gtx 970 at the moment. So I’ll need to upgrade as well.

No the 27” version of the monitor you’re looking at is R2,899.

Just sort by price at the top, and click the “in stock with wootware” option on the left.

Apologies I thought you were referring to the S2721DGF in my original post

As someone who does a lot of writing/research work on his computer, dual 27" setup is great. You don't have to go fancy, but an entry level 27" can be found for about 3k.

How do you mean? Pixels are pixels. On the 27" they're just less dense. You won't actually get more fitting into your screen?

That is true.

However, being larger, I find it more immersive for gaming. I have a 24” 144Hz which is nice but when I used my friend’s 27”, I preferred the experience.

Wootware is great and they have amazing customer service.

I am selling this if you are interested:

Excel will love the higher resolution over FHD, but Cyberpunk and RDR2 will have you seriously considering upgrading your GPU.

Slightly more to it than that, can make everything smaller/zoom out on excel and fit more. Definitely worth the move from 24->27" if only one display.

I agree, I will first have to upgrade my GPU. I've tried my PC on a QHD display, and had to tone down the graphics too much.

I'm contemplating buying from takealot. With discovery miles discount it will work out 15% cheaper

I have mixed feelings about a 1080p 27". I have had one for a few years and would rather recommend sticking with a 24" at this res. Everything looks big and blown up otherwise.

And of course the flip side with a 1440p 27" is you need the power to drive the extra pixels.

I gave my old 27" to my parents, so I was in the same jam a few weeks ago. But then I opted for neither and stuck with my laptop monitor :D

Personally would choose 24" over 27" for 1080p monitor, the pixilation on a 27" is very noticeable. By the way most graphics controllers, integrated and discrete, from the last 3 or so years can drive up to 4k displays without any issue.

You mean for people who can't see small text very well? Because there are the same number of pixels, period, the information just gets spread across a larger area.

Yes, which has its benefits. In excel for example, the same spreadsheet on my laptop (1080p) and my 24” (1080p) is easier to use in the 24” as you can zoom out and still have it clear enough to read, thus allowing more real estate.

Not a hard concept to comprehend, but I can post pics if you like.

Nah, I get what you're saying, just wanted to make sure I understood it correctly. People seem to struggle with the concept or resolution, sometimes.
